Quest for Infamy / Re: Designing Quest For Infamy

The unique RPG-like branching character class paths give you a pretty fantastic opportunity to categorize puzzles into "bins" appropriate for both the class type and player style.

For example, arcade sequences neatly fit the Brigand's style.  Dialogue puzzles would be Rogueish, as they'd be a form of confidence artistry.  Riddle/mathematics puzzles and minigames dovetail well into the sorcery of the Mage's path.

I enjoy all of the above (arcade probably the least).  Inventory puzzles are a staple and should be part of all of the above.  Especially satisfying (and howlingly frustrating), as mentioned by others, are the very long-running collection quests in which random shit A and random shit Z finally come together at a very late stage to combine into a grand plot advancement.  Hence, I would say that a McGuffin style item puzzle is best for one of those, since reserving such a combining for practical item could be a bit punishing for a player who has forgotten to pick up a piece very early on, and loses the opportunity to do so.  Nothing restoring and replaying dozens of tedious sequences, which while difficult and rewarding the first time, become a chore in successive runs.  However, if you are constructing the Fine McGuffin of Power out of the mystical Three Pieces, you're unlikely to try to advance without first finding all three.

I, so far, found the structure of the inventory puzzles in the demo (that I've seen! I've not played through all paths completely yet).  If that's the flavor and tenor you're going for, then by increasing the scope and magnitude of the overall finished product sevenfold, I'm certainly pleased to have put myself in the dungeon :D

Yeah, I'm deeply backed into Jack Houston.  It's amazing, and Warbird Games ideas are so creative.  I, too, would be heartbroken to see it fail for lack of funds.

So... Great Library of Tyr!  I hope it will be sprawling and dusty, lots of fat, thick candles burnt low with wax rivulets solidified in little columns as though candle upon candle had been continually stacked there for hundreds of years.  And, speaking of stacks... stacks and precarious stacks of books of all sizes and thicknesses could line up in ad-hoc rows, forming walk-pathing barriers, except the stack that Roehm topples, grabbing the one book he needs from near the bottom to advance his Sorcerer's path.  Also, I'd love to see wall sections of honeycombed scroll-cubbies, as in a wine store, but instead of the bottles, scrolls tightly stuffed in each compartment, in various states of wear from newly scribed to crumbling.  Of course, there would need to be organized sections, as it is a proper library, each neatly categorized and shelved floor-to-ceiling section equipped with stout ladders spaced equidistantly, including a rare/special tome section (which may need to be snuck into to retrieve an item in the course of a quest to advance his Rogue's path).

Or whatever you folks had in mind.  That would be cool, too.

The effect is aided by the strong and mysterious brow... which also serves to shadow his pupils.  I was going to clip out and ridiculously zoom the eyes of the portrait and draw little MS Paint-style circles around them to prove that the pupils are there, but she answered the question.  Ah well... I snooze, I lose.

Seems like IQ's status as an indie studio with an over-funded Kickstarter for an eagerly long-awaited project, you've got a newsworthy story to tell.  I think you might be able to score an interview with one of the big adventure gaming sites (isn't this whole situation basically every fan game maker's wildest dream?!).

Sad, and also irritating, I would imagine.  I wasn't on board for that KS (no Linux until some astronomical goal around a million dollars), but I know plenty of folks that chose to come on after seeing Oded and the AM team and interacting with them.  There will be backers that feel baited & switched, not to mention how the AM dudes must feel.

Reincarnation made it's $15K Kickstarter goal!  HUGE thanks to Bt for crawling up from the grave to send the armada over there.  In fact, the response was so enthusiastic, it looks like a $18K stretch goal will be met, where all the backers get thanked in a bonus room in the game (I think).  It will fund tomorrow sometime, I think.

Ouch... writing code without power is miserable.  It's a bit like trying to eat food without a mouth.

I suspect that, considering you have a family, coding wasn't top priority during that episode  ;)

Little humans take priority in situations like that.  We've only had one "extended" outage since my daughter was born, and it was very short (perhaps a couple of hours).

Can Kickstarter backers have an awesome title or badges or some such?  8)

I don't know if we can do that.

Well, heh, all right!

Bt

I'm finding this solution most excellent, indeed   ;D
