Title: Achievement for cheater ?
Post by: bussiere on July 21, 2014, 07:10:53 PM
In my second i amused myself with some memory edit for the game.

As incredible amount of gold etc ...

Why not putting an achievement as "Probably a cheater" when you do it ?

In my knowledge no game did that.

Could be fun :)

And the game still ran? I've noticed it can get very unstable trying to hack things.

Honestly, any kind of "achievement" for hacking could be done thus: attributes clearly should not be able to go above a certain value (100). So any attribute over 100 could be reset (when detected on game load) to 1.

Hacking AGS is always going to be a challenge. Not because it's difficult but because the engine itself is crazy complicated in the way it's scripted, any change is as likely to fail as to work.

Just suggesting that if you have a value "unatural" make a little achievement.

This is just a suggestion.

On my second run i give myself lot of gold and crazy stats ... (whit game conqueror).

I can put a screen capture if needed.

Just that with a game whose title is Quest for infamy this kind of achievement could be a funny thing.

I see no need to do this for two solid reasons:

1: it is a single player game and while I did not cheat, cheating hurts no one

2: there are many people that spend time to get every achievement in a game and have a "negative" achievement like this would annoy many.

not a negative one.

It's quest for infamy being bad is good so.

You can make one as "winning by all mean."

Making one in a humoristic way.
We talk about quest for infamy so

If there were an in-game way of hacking stats, like Quest for Glory's blue frog debug mode, then an achievement might make sense.  However, it's not really fair to have an achievement that relies on doing something outside of the game with software not everyone has.

has anybody tried 'feed BT marmite' yet, that sounds like a more QFI version of the blue frog, unless I'm misremembering the earlier theme.

Did i say that the achievement should be negative ?

This mirrors my thoughts

There are multiple impediments to doing such an achievement and the sole purpose of the achievement would basically announce to other players that you have a memory editor on your system and know how to use it.  With the massive negative feelings that others have on such things (especially the online gaming community) there is no way to really make it positive.

It's a unique idea and I like it for that reason alone.

But the point of achievements in my view is to give players something to strive for. If they can't obtain that except by hacking a game I really think it does those players a disservice.

Is there a blue frog-equivalent easter egg anywhere in QFI?

I think this makes sense, honestly.

Plus the masters one has different responses depending on whether you know about the seal or not.

I noticed that!  I appreciate that attention to detail, especially since in adventure games you're supposed to try to get anything that's not nailed down (and in this game, even some things that are!).

We tried to make sure we got stuff like that - believe me! The team, while testing, made sure that I put a lot of that stuff in!! So thank Lamb, Dr. Slash, Chucklas and Corrigan for that stuff!
