Banter and Chit-Chat! / Wot I'm Reading - The Book Thread
« on: June 23, 2014, 01:38:14 PM »
Currently, I'm reading one of my favorite novels again - this being Frank Herbert's "Dune".

I first became aware of this when I was 6 - the film came out that year, and the look of it fascinated me, so I sought the book out.  Half of it made little sense, but I slugged through it - and loved the imagry.  I've read this book probably 20 or more times in my life, and I often like to revisit it because it's so inspiring to me.  It's just an amazing intersection of science-fiction, philosophy, language and religion.  It's a masterpiece and influenced countless other science fiction and fantasy authors.  (It's clear that this book influenced George Lucas quite a bit when writing Star Wars!)

IQ Chat / Quest For Infamy Release Date Update - July 10th
« on: June 18, 2014, 09:06:44 PM »
Hey guys!

Well, I'm here to tell you that we're pushing the release date of QFI back two weeks, to July 10th - this gives us more time to work with our distributors and make sure QFI is released properly.  With the DRM Free Summer Sale at GOG and The Steam Summer Sale, they want to make sure the release doesn't get lost in the frenzy of the sale!  So, yeah, two additional weeks to wait for QFI - but it's going to be worth it, I promise! This game has really come into it's own in the past few weeks and we can't wait to share it with you!

I know we'll get ripped apart by some people, but it's nice to know there's ones like these around.

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Occulus VR & Facebook
« on: March 28, 2014, 03:07:11 PM »
I remember when I heard buzz about Occulus VR a couple years ago - I wasn't impressed then.  I mean, I grew up in the whole era of VR.... The Lawnmower Man blew my friends mind with promises of technology, but it ended up being a fart in the wind.  However, the rise of that did give rise to 3D graphics gaining more prominence in computer and game culture, leading to the kind of games we see today - where everything is 3D modeled and made with rigs etc.

But Occulus seemed like just another gag to me at the time; I recognize we live in a time where people are obsessed with "gadgetry" more than ever.  We like little baubles of coolness to distract us, and the Occulus was just that to me.  I always played games as an alternative to reality, but I kept my feet firmly planted in the world.  I never wanted to leave this place - I just enjoyed the distraction.  Some people WANT to slip into that world fully.  So I see why the Occulus was popular, and on a KS asking for just $250,000 to develop their technology, they got $2.5 million.

People lauded the rise of independent technology development - and there was hopes of some brave new world and awesome new game-changing landscape where developers would create and control the entertainment and content!  Hand in hand with hardware developers, and free of the endless chain of barmery that corporations regurgitated, people would get new, fun, innovative and amazing games and entertainment!  The future was in our grasp!  All of us! We'd start the revolution!

And, of course, it was sold to facebook for $2 Billion the other day.  That's $2,000,000,000 dollars.

Now, as a business decision, uh - yeah - that's a no-brainer.  But it does put a damper on that whole "revolution" thing.  Truth is, money will buy you out.  It'll buy out the revolution, and I'm not surprised about it.  Anything that truly aspires to be bigger will never just develop organically enough to take on those with the superfunds.  It's sad that Occulus went this way, but for me - I never really cared for it, so it's no skin off my back.  I do feel bad for people who believed in something, and had that smashed.

Anyway, I'm just musing outloud here.  Perhaps we'll get some more opinions on the matter, eh?

A fully illustrated art book and strategy guide and hint book - complete with decoder window - for Infamous Quest's "Quest For Infamy!"

THE QUEST FOR INFAMY COMPANION

I loved playing adventure games when I was young - I bet many of you did too - and now, you can play an old school adventure like you used to know with Infamous Quests upcoming release "Quest For Infamy"!

A fun thing about some of the old adventure games were the hint books - sometimes they used to be the only way to get you through a problem!  But they were also fun, too - with their decoder windows, hidden messages and red herrings!  They were awesome to get along side the games.

In addition, some game series had their own "companion books" - the books fleshed out the locations, characters and history behind the development of the games and they would also have some amazing art in there in addition to all the neat info!

Now, in the same vein of nostalgia that led us to produce Quest For Infamy, we're combining these two very special items into one book - The Quest For Infamy Companion!

Banter and Chit-Chat! / SCI - Sierra Creative Interpreter Chat
« on: January 07, 2014, 12:40:47 PM »
You know, seeing the release of this new game made in SCI, http://www.infamous-quests.com/forum/index.php?topic=831.0 - it's gotten me thinking about all the old tools that Sierra used to use in game creation.

I wonder if any are extant at all - on a disk somewhere, or an old hard-drive... I wonder what the original tools were like, compared to SCI studio... something I've always wondered about.

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Differences in English/Slang
« on: October 09, 2013, 03:16:15 PM »
This article reminded me of some conversations we've had around here! Working with people from all over the world is amazing, and since we generally use English to communicate, sometimes differences in slang and vernacular lead to funny things.

Heh.  We've had some confusion over "pants" and "vest" is the past!  Trousers and Waistcoat, eh?

Quest for Infamy / Upcoming Kickstarter for Art & Hint Book
« on: September 10, 2013, 09:26:33 PM »
Hey there -

I wanted to share this with you, The Lonarian Guard, our special backers.  We're going to launch a Kickstarter Campaign to fund an Art & Hint book for Quest For Infamy.  Featuring not only full color reproductions of the in game art, but it will also have a classic "red reveal" hint section, as well as full color maps, item lists, secrets, etc.

This campaign is not live yet - but I have the preview here to offer you.  This is not not finished - we may add, change, delete things, but I wanted to give you a sneak preview.  I realize not everyone is into this kind of item - but our artists have worked so hard, and I'd love to be able to produce a collectible keepsake like this.

In addition, all the backers from QFI (including all of you) will be included in a special thanks section in the book too.

You can preview the campaign by clicking here.
