Cheers Broomie! Nah my QFG Fan Games thread I already moved here so all good. :) Would be cool if you made the forum read only one day as the IA forums is like an old library book and is a massive resource of useful information and materials.

I may be forgetting somewhere but it looks like my site links to your old forums for these things:

My Quest for Infamy Page links to Klytos's thread and massive post about the history of the OLD QFI with pictures and link to the demo for curious fans.
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/forum/index.php?topic=3719.0

My Hero6 page has 2 links to Deltamatrix's (I think it was him) End of Hero6 thread where someone (whats his name from AGDI team I think) posted a big post about the history of the project and revealed there was actually a 2nd secret Hero6 project.
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/forum/index.php?topic=4844.0
Then Blackthorne (I think) posted the 2009 demo for everyone to check out which I linked to his post for fans to try out the demo.

I have the AGS source code for Hero 6 if you're interested Blake.

All good there thanks man. I was using BT's 2009 demo to make my videos however I hit some bad bugs so Deltamatrix was kind enough to give me the final source code from 2011 which I compiled and was able to finish my videos with, I still have the file. Plus Delta went on to post it publicly at Big Blue Cup AGS forums anyway so people have been getting it from there I think.

Ahh found a copy of my old post about Hero 6 and the videos I made in case there's any old Hero 6 fans here who didn't frequent the old IA forums.

--------------------------
Hey guys,

It’s taken a few weeks and some help from Deltamatrix over at QFMG but I've finally finished my Hero 6 videos showing quick playthroughs of the big 2006 MAD engine demo and the smaller but more polished 2009 AGS demo. If any of you out there have been following the project over the last decade wanted to see how much was done and see all the brilliant work that went into the game over the years (from so many including some of our awesome AGDers here) now you can! It is my hope that by showing the world this game on youtube it will never be forgotten and maybe more fans will be inspired to help bring the project back from the dead or create great QFG style projects of their own.

I've posted new screenshots, download links and embedded the videos in the Hero 6 page at my website but I’ll post the vids here too to make it easier. :)

2006 MAD Engine Alpha Demo (in 2 Parts)
This demo boasts a very large game world to explore with a town and 2 villages containing many npcs to talk to (with a QFG4 full screen protrait style). There are many monsters to fight and even some jobs to do for the npcs.

2009 AGS Engine Alpha Demo (in 3 Parts)
This demo reflects the downsizing of the project with a smaller game world however it is much more polished and contains story and multiple quests to complete therefore making it much longer to play! In a way it almost feels like a sequel to the 2006 demo as places you could visit before are now dead, overgrown and haunted. The battles are better as well with new enemies and gang fights.

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Heroine's Quest Update

Getting very excited about this QFG style game! :)

this part sounds really cool (Elder Scrolls like):
"Characters aren't always stationary in the one place, and often move to other locations during the day. You can even follow them from room to room! This brings a lot of life and realism to the cities, and is not commonly seen in adventure games at all!"

Yup you're talking about the exact same problem everyone gets when they try to get it working without any help. That's why I said to go and get the walkthrough from My QFG4.5 page as it contains a installation guide which you will need to get the game working.

Follow the guide and if you're still struggling we'll try and get you to the finish line. :)

I downloaded the game fairly recently and couldn't get it to run, sadly...does it work with Dosbox or anything?  Anyone have a link to a current download?

Edit:  ok, probably only the link in the first post.  I'll just try to run it again when I get home from vacation & see if I'm more successful this time.  I'm not too handy running games if I have to tweak things a bit ;)

Sarah if you hop over to my QFG fan page (link in my signature) and visit the QFG4.5 page its got the download links and my walkthrough that contains a installation guide. If you have any troubles post here and we can all try & put our heads together to help out again lol.

PS a girls reaction to the game would be 'interesting' to say the least hahaha.

Well that's all folks.. according to the precinct website the project is dead.

I made a similar thread to this over at Himalaya studios and got some VERY interesting inside info on the mess this all turned out to be. Jim really should have stuck with Himalaya, I would have thrown my money at that duo! Each of these sierra great come backs have worked because they teamed up with good people with good connections, I guess someone was due some bad luck choice wise and it was Jim who got dealt it. :(

Btw, who made this game?  Does he still have any internet presence or read this at all?  I'd love to thank him personally!  There any old interviews with him out there at all?

He disappeared a year or so after the game came out and as far as I know no one ever heard from him again.

That is until a few weeks ago when I got the shock of my err online related life lol and received an email from him about my website tribute to his game:

"Dude, I made QFG 4.5 back before college starting in 1999 up to 2000. I'd put it out there then sort of forgot/lost track. I told some friends about it, they googled it and found your page.

Thank you so much for the re-vamp! I still have the original source code, I'm not sure if that would have helped. I am extremely flattered by what you did for my old pet project. Frankly, my humor back then was a tad sophomoric and my spelling atrocious, but I'm very glad the game brought some people joy and that you put it back out there.

Cheers friend!"

I replied to him thanking him for the game etc and told him a bit about the potential remake (making it clear I wasn't the one working on it), this place, you guys, Quest for Infamy and Hero-U etc and chucked in some links. Never heard back from him sadly but nevertheless there ya go hey.. its been over a friggin decade and he's appeared.. briefly haha.

Moments like that are one of the reasons I made my QFG fan game tribute pages as I wanted authors to see how passionate fans can get about their little projects & that their work was never forgotten, and its awesome when one comes out of retirement/wilderness/exile to thank me and in most cases offer new material not seen by the public. Eg a similar thing happened with Klytos with QFI way before the kickstarter, Chris with the old Heroine's Quest, Orion with project Katrina and more I'm forgetting. :)

Hey guys I could use some advice. I'm stuck in a bit a situation and it’s dawned on me that there are some very talented webpage coders here who are fans of my site who could help me!

To play all the music on my site I've always just used the old embedding technique that I was taught back in the day to play my midis and mp3s. This has always caused the issue that the site required people to have quicktime installed to play the midis. I've always wanted to make the music more accessible to all and so I was thrilled 4 or 5 years back when they brought out the whole html5 audio tags however I quickly discovered they don't support midi which 3/4 of the music on my site is (being mainly a retro gaming fan site).

Every year I try to find a solution eg checking if html5 has added support for midi (which I’m guessing it never will), is there better code, or a freely available java web based player that plays midis but I never find anything that works or is easy to understand. I knew the day was coming that this problem would get bigger and sadly it looks like today is that day! Quicktime have just updated to 7.4.4 and in that update their midi playing support appears to have become broken. As a result any page on my website that has a midi (which is most) crashes the quicktime plugin and quicktime being its usual awesome self takes the bloody browser with it (jams up a bit later forcing you to restart it). So now I have a website that crashes peoples computers, not cool.

When I posted about the problem on the quicktime support forums I just got burned by quicktime ass lickers refusing to admit this is a result of a bug in the new version and would simply rather pay me out for using old code and not offer a better alternative. So I figured I’d come here!

Is there newer better code that I could use that supports midi and hopefully won’t crash quicktime? Or is there another alternative to play the midis on the website without quicktime that gives me player controls (so visitors can stop the music if they want, like it is now)? Or am I going to have to accept that fact that I’m going to need to convert the midis to mp3 and if so do you guys know a good way I could go about it (eg keeping the file size small without ruining the quality of the midi too much)?

I should point out that I only know basic html from a course I did 12 years ago lol, anything advanced on my site is taken from guide sites for html or java tricks. So you’ll need to dumb down your answers a bit for me lol!
Here's an example of my old code from my main QFG page (that puts the player controls over in the top right of the page):
<div align="right">
<embed src="QFG1GM3.MID" autostart="true" loop="false" height="20" width="150">
</div>

a little off topic, but how up to date is your Starflight stuff? Its another favorite of mine.

Brand new section mate, I created it just under a month ago. Been wanting to make a big page for years on the series, partly just for myself so I could listen to the music whenever I wanted haha. Like with QFG please let me know if you come across any good fan projects, their community has really slowed down in the last few years which is a bit sad. The Starflight 3 project was their big 'Hero6' of the fan projects with massive hopes, big expectations, and multiple collapses. :( But unlike Hero6 its back to life again. Hope they get there!
