Title: World Cup 2014
Post by: Broomie on June 09, 2014, 04:01:21 AM
So, the World Cup returns this week. Not sure how many sporting fans we have here but thought I'd put a poll up to see who you think will win the World Cup in Brazil. Brazil and Argentina are certainly the top favorites but anyone can win it. Italy won it in 2006 and Spain won it in 2010.

I've put the favorites up but obviously put Other for the country you think will win and feel free to post who and why. I'm behind England all the way but I doubt they'll get very far. My bet is on Argentina to win the World Cup.

So what are your predictions? Will you be watching the World Cup? Do you hate "soccer"? Will England progress out of the group stages? Who knows! Probably not on the latter though.

Germany of course. But I think Brazil will do it. And they have the home advantage, too.

But Iīm no soccer fan. ;)

Just to show my genuine lack of interest, I had to google to find out whether Australia had even qualified.

Of course I am pulling for the USA, but we are terrible.  I hope we get at least one draw in group play.

As for a winner, I am going with The Netherlands.

See, that's the problem with soccer! You end up barracking for a draw? How fucking boring!

I am just saying we are that bad.  I hope to win the whole damn thing.  I just know it isn't likely.  I really just dont want to get shut out completely.

Should have taken Landon Donovan. Not sure what your manager was thinking not bringing him, he might be getting on a bit in age but he's still one of your best players. I hope USA does well too as you've improved so much but unfortunately the teams in your group are some of the best in the world.

And you always hope your team wins but if you can play for a draw to ensure your team gets the points to win the group stages it's not so bad.

They would be better with Donovan, but I think they are looking at 2018.  By bringing younger less experienced players with potential, they are hoping to give them quality experience moving forward.  I understand it, but we are weaker this world cup as a result.

Yes. In the last 30 seconds. Rats.

And we move on!!  Thank you Portugal!  I was worried when Ghana tied it up.  Had Ghana pulled off the win, we would have been out.

Well done USA - from a disappointed England fan.

That Belgium match... damn, I wish our team had shown up to support Tim Howard.  Lots of brand new Everton fans on this side of the pond, now;  I have co-workers buying home shirts (not even joking), since Everton FC now (cleverly) allow payments in dollars and overseas shipping  ;)

Looks like the IQ community was right in choosing Germany!

And Germany was in my works sweepstakes. As well as Argentina so I got prizes for first and second place. I'm such a jammy bastard.

Happy Germany won over Argentina. Not that I had some kind of a vendetta against Argentina because they knocked us out of the cup, the team just consists out of dicks.

Oh, I see itīs a long time I wasnīt in the forums lately.
Yes we won against Brazil in Brazil. That means something. :)
The last game was very exciting, too exciting. :o But itīs 2:1 Germany and Argentina. :)
And again the 24 years tradition. Every country that has 4 or 5 stars (Brazil (5), Italy (4) and now Germany) got it after 24 years... ???

And I hoped exactly (the whole cup tho I didnīt know we come that far) for that endgame. :)
