Broomie enjoys marmite. He enjoys it on toast.
I do not. I once had marmite on a dare, and I spent hours scraping my tongue, and drinking from a toilet bowl to get the taste out of my mouth.
However, with encouraging from Mr. Broom - I, Bt, have decided to eat Marmite on Toast to prove my love for all things Infamous Quest, and our beloved game, Quest For Infamy.
This will all be happening live - details to follow. Needless to say, it may be in your interest to watch me eat Marmite. It could be entertaining.
As I said, keep your eyes on the site for more details.
Here's the video!

Hahaa! Now that is devotion. Wouldn't miss it...
No clue what Marmite is, btw. Looking that one up...
Sarah
Edit: um....sounds...yum. <gags> :o
-
HAHAHA! Love it Bt! I would not be so brave. But I will love watching you take one for the team!
-
I love marmite! There's a national shortage of it in NZ at the moment, I believe. Those poor people!
-

Enough people love marmite to cause a national shortage? Yikes.
-
Enough people love Marmite that it's still for sale?
-
Well ok, Marmite is a brewer's yeast. Extremely salty with the consistensy of maple syrup in my thoughts. I had some back in '96 when i was on a school trip to England. It's rank and is worst than Blood pudding in my oppion. Than again i am sure folks from England hate Jiff Peanut Butter and Heinz Ketchup......
-
Heinz Ketchup
Best. Thing. Ever.
-
When eating something that taste bad, put Heinz 57 on it. It, the Ketchup makes everything taste Good!!!! Yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :)
-
It's good stuff!
-
Marmite GOLD? ON CRUMPETS?
Wow.
The countdown to my encounter with Marmite continues. The jar is just staring me in the face, taunting me.
Bt
-
Me and Brooms will finish off the rest when we meet up. Bring it down to Jerm's cabin for us ;)
-
That doesn't sounds creepy at all.
-
There's a national shortage of it in NZ at the moment, I believe
True story! This is due to the factory that produces it getting damaged in the Christchurch earthquake.
I am back in the States again next month and am looking forward to enjoying in and out burgers again. BT can you suggest any good national chains for espresso coffee, other then starbucks? Really really struggled for good espresso when I was in the states last time and I am nicer to travel with when I get my fix.
-
National Chains - for espresso... no, I really can't recommend one, other than Starbucks. I usually hit a local place - it depends on where you're going, really. Your best bet is to look locally on, say, Yelp or TripAdvisor for where you're going. A local coffeehouse is going to have it better than a chain.
Bt
-
That doesn't sounds creepy at all.
Haha, now I re-read it, it does sound like I'm suggesting doing something other than eating it. I don't like marmite quite THAT much.
-
It's okay. Nothing is creepier or weirder than Marmite. NOTHING CAN DEFEAT IT'S WEIRDNESS.
I'm going to regret eating this. I've bought some crumpets to have it on. You know how hard crumpets are to find in the US??
Bt

Really? I was going to re-enact what that guy did in that Marmtie vs Vegemite video we watched. ;)
-
Oh. Dear. God.
Bt
-
hahahaha XD
-
Local is almost always better than Starbucks, especially if they roast in-house.
-
OK, so what exactly IS marmite anyway?
-
It's a spread made from yeast extract.
Bt
-
It's a spread made from yeast infection extract.
Bt
Gross.
-
It's a byproduct of the beer industry, or something like that.
-
I love beer.
-
If Marmite is anything like Vegemite, it's not terrible, though I can't say it's my favourite food :P
And Vegemite keeps for years! I think I ate some that was 5 years old and it still tasted the same.
-
Or it tastes off to begin with.
-

Yeah agreed, over here though we do have a few chains that roast in house. I was surprised at the lack of espresso places last time I visited the states. NZ is not only a huge consumer of marmite but a massive consumer of espresso as well!
-

I am not sure where you were, but they are all over the place around here. In fact, there are places in town where you need to go no further than two or three blocks to find one.
-
We were driving from san fran to la whenI struggled most for good coffee. In nz basically no one serves filter coffee, you either get espresso or nothing. So cos of that every diner, cafe, most pubs and even mcdonalds serve espresso. So it was very strange to actually have to try and find a place.
-
I lost count of how many flat whites I drank while I was in NZ. Great coffee :)
-
What parts of NZ did you visit?mand yip the flat white is a kiwi special ;)
-
I spent three days in Auckland, so had time to visit Matamata and see the Hobbiton set. Then spent a couple of weeks in Wellington. My boyfriend has family in Upper Hutt. Whereabouts are you based? :)
-
I live in Tauranga which is about a 40 min drive from Matamata. Each year I have to go to upper hutt for a conference I speak at, gotta be honest it isn't my fav part of the country. Inner city Wellingon is v cool though, if I get any free time t is def a trip into welly rather then hanging in the hutt!
-
Haha, it's not a happening place to visit, that's for sure, but it's a beautiful drive over there from Wellington. We were only in the hutt valley a couple of times, visiting for dinner and such, spent most of our time kicking about in the city. I loved Te Papa museum!
-
Excause me for being non-american but what is Marmite? :)
-
Excuse yourself for being a non-Brit. ;) It's a spread of yeast extract which is popular in the UK. It tastes a lot better then it sounds but it is very sweet, quite beefy and salty brown syrup. It goes great when mixed with butter too. It's whole marketing campaign is based off the deciding factor that you'll either love it or hate it. I know a lot of people who love it, and a lot of people (Blackthorne) who hate it.
-
very sweet, quite beefy and salty brown syrup.
I think I found some Marmite smeared up the inside of my underpants yesterday when I was doing laundry!
-
Sounds like a personal problem to me Lamb..... But then again eating marmite might cause interesting internal problems?!!!!!!! :) ;)

I'm sure that this qualifies as a TMI moment.

Thats a TMIE moment. Which is either "Too Much Information Ever" moment, or Time for a dyslexic.

Bt
Haha...the real question is, how did I know what it tasted like??
-
I don't know if I threw up just now because that was so gross or so awesome.
Bt
-
I don't think I ever threw up because something was so awesome. Have I been living a shallow, unfulfilling life?
-

I always used to throw up when things were awesome. I threw up at Pink Floyd show in 1994 because it was so awesome.
Bt
-
Then you'd best keep a bucket on hand during the marmite experiment, either way.
-
Hey BT when are going to eat the marmite? Some of us QFI fans are anticipating youy humorous response to eating the foul and gooey spread on toast??? ;D

I second this. You're committed, Bt. No weaseling out of this one. hahaha

Oh, I'm doing it. Let's make it happen this week. After I do that, I gotta get my hands on some Vegemite, and do that too.

Yeah, hasn't happened yet - heh. Life got in the way, and partially - I'm scared. It will happen, though, and video to prove it!

You should have this instead.

Almost assuredly after. Which will commence on Jan. 9, 2013.
Mark the calenders.
Bt

Blechh. I do not envy you, Bt. :o
-
The things I do....
Bt

I am glad to see BT has survived his encounter with the dreaded and disgusting brewers yeast known as Marmite! Now I have to wonder if he has the bullocks to try Vegemite? Perhaps he will other revolting English foods like blood pudding? On a serious note. Actually like some British foods like shepherds pie, bangers and mashed as well as fish in chips. So keep up the good work on QFI and release as soon as possible please. Chadly.
-
I didn't survive. What happened is the marmite actually killed who you knew as "Bt", and then went into replication mode - marmite is actually a mutagenic and biological copying substance that takes over it's host, and recreates it exactly as it was, except now I'm a little bit more salty. You asshole.

Yep. A vast collective of Mutagenic-And-Replicating Mites (M-A-R-Mite) now compose the decaying husk that once was BT.
And remaining true to its original host, this MARMite replication of BT will also be late in delivering QFI in a timely fashion...
-
Oh dear. :-\
-
Is the replicated BT calling me an asshole? Is he referring to the sludge that is called Marmite? Either way I am confidant that QFI will be developed and released in a timely fashion. Here is an idea put Marmite in the game as a poison which can be used as a weapon! ;)

Hold on... let me guess, your name is now "LINC", and you're currently being thwarted by a bad-ass klepto in a black trench coat and his robot sidekick, yeah?
I've heard this one before... and where are the pictures? Hmm??

Or like the LSL factory that spits out a new Larry when you get run over by the car.

Amazing. Though I might have to call bullshit on the "throwing up" part. ;)

I loved the video. That stuff must have been NASTY. I never wanted to try it before and after watching it I don't think I ever will. :o

I can't believe they made you eat the whole biscuit!! That's just wrong...so wrong...

Wow, that was so worth it!! For us.
You're a good man, Bt! Good times...

My vote is for either the neck (gangsta style) or the left butt cheek. I suppose we can let you pick which character you want Bt, we're understanding like that.

I've had Marmite before, and if this were true it would actually be vastly preferable to the horror that is the genuine article.

I vote for a tat of the birthmark that Alexander of Daventry had on his bum (KQ3) --
I believe it was in the shape of Cedric the Owl...

Let's see... I've got Bovril and Vegemite up on deck? Oh boy.
Bt
-
Today, I learned something interesting about Bovril...
Bovril can be made into a drink by diluting with hot water, or less commonly with milk.
Yum! ;)

Yeah, I'm with you Lamb. Might as well do like Bt suggests, and save myself the trouble of actually trying it.
It was the implication of dairy really turned my gut over...

Vegemite turns 90 next Friday, and the challenge I put to Bt is to cook Vegemite caramel chocolate cups (link below):

^^^^ I second this challenge.

My mouth is watering at the thought of that.

Anything to make BT squirm. ;D

They have vegemite at my local market. I've been meaning to pick some up, and film myself eating some for your amusement.
BUT I'VE BEEN BUSY, YOU KNOW, WORKING ON AN EFFING GAME.
