Ah, so that means it may still be possible for me to complete the puzzle that way!  I'll keep trying to figure it out.

I found another message error when

trying to climb the vines at the mayor's house during the siege of Tyr.  I can climb them just fine at night, but during the day I get an message about the servants being around and it refuses to let me climb the vines.  Earlier the narrator makes a point of saying there are no servants (or was it guards?) around, so I expected to be able to climb up during the day.

It's totally minor, but if you're compiling a list of mini-bugs, it's worth a check.
