Yeah, I remember reading that the lead on that KQIV project, Karen, had suddenly passed away.  That's very sad, she was very young.

And thanks for the compliments on our KQ3.  When we made it, we didn't know AGDI was going to do a KQ3 - we just thought it would be fun to do.  Ours came out in 2006, too - I think their KQIII+ came out in 2010 or 2011.  I enjoyed our years of doing remakes, and I especially enjoyed the community that popped up around them.  I mean, I met Broomie & Klytos there and everything we've done has spun out of that community.

Over the years, between AGDI and the AGS-Forums, I've met a lot of awesome people that helped us create these games.  I really do miss that sense of community, but I also realize that when this all started, many of us were students and young adults with little responsibility.  Now, we live much different lives - and some people have just moved on totally and aren't around any more.  Such is life! It just makes me grateful for those who have stuck around, and those who I've developed lasting friendships with.

I did not know that about Karen, wow. Life is short.

I don't know about many people in the community who I remember from the early Tierra days who are around anymore.

There's been movement towards remaking KQ4 by a number of groups over the many years I've been in this community. If they're stuck looking for animators and sprite artists I'd be fairly confident in saying it won't be finished. Backgrounds are pretty easy to make, don't get me wrong, you need to be talented and a lot of work goes into a background but sprites are boring and repetitive and a lot of people will do a basic animation cycle and realise the work involved and not continue. For example, the basic walk sprites for Roehm in QFI is 8 directions at 8 frames a direction (64 sprites) then multiply that out by three for sneak and run you're at just shy of 200 frames of animation and that doesn't include any specific sprites (death animations, climbing down a rope, falling over, picking up something.)
Does this count as Background :P

3D is not easy to get right and I think the fact we know that Sierra stuff so damn well makes it easy to pick faults out. The thing with 3D is there's really no middle ground, you've got horrible or brilliant. That's why we stick with 2D cell animation lol

when did karen pass may I ask..

as for kq in 3d well

like mask of eternity the epic fail game,
if only it had been done a bit later with a better updated engine the game woulda rocked
even using lands of lore guardians of destiny engine woulda been better
but imagine kq mask with unreal engine (yes i know its to costly but .. shrug) hell even unity woulda been better minus battle, since unity kinda blows in that arena..

I dont know when she passed away, but you can go to the KQ4VGA Site and look there.

As for a MOE Remake, it would be Rated 16 hence the Violent Deaths in the Game.

Unicorn Tales and their horse-faced Rosella.  Dear sweet God.
Lambonius...Rarely has our moderating team encountered a forumite as consistently unpleasant as you, and you've burned through far more chances than you deserved. A person really has to try hard to be so obnoxious that they're banned from AG, but you've managed it and then some.
