I think that we should focus on getting the first one made, first.

Actually the first step to get to QFI2 would be release QFI demo 2.0.  Next finish QFI, and finally a year later make QFI2!!!!!!! ;)

Well, Bt has let on that he's thought out aspects of QFI 2 already.  For example, he's got this awesome idea to contain QFI 1 (the world) within QFI 2 (the larger world), including the main town, Volksville.  Perhaps with a map-travel interface (a la Conquests of the Longbow) to quickly traverse locales.  We assume that Roehm has a horse by QFI 2 (if it is in fact he who stars in the second game).

I suspect that all of those details are way off, but the idea of being able to transfer my character into QFI 2, and revisit the old locales is quite endearing, I must note.

Indeed that idea would/will be most Awesome!  But first the dynamic Duo and team must finish QFI 1. Then make the sequel.  Lets not put the cart before the horse! :)

Yep.  S_D speaks the truth.  If QFI proves to be a success, this is the goal of QFI2.

Hmmm. So, if I know anything about how these game series work, the third game will have us traveling through time to visit all of these parts of the world at interesting times throughout their history, becoming a legend even though all we really wanted to do was prevent the evil tentacle from breaking up our parents at the high school battle of the bands, with our trusty floating animal companion that turns into a magical screwdriver.

The export file for that game will, of course, have to be huge to contain every action we took, so we can do it all again in the fourth game with the added challenge of not running into ourselves. By the fifth game, we'll be fighting our way through the series' entire mythology, destroying the revered gods and cementing ourselves as the rulers of the universe. I guess from that point, the only way to proceed would be through prequels.

I'm sure this has already crossed your mind but if you do QfI2 it would be nice to be able to use your character from QfI1

See, that's where we're going different.  You can't even use Roehm in the next game.  You have to start over as a new guy named "Bill", a poor young horse manure-shoveler.  Nothing more infamous than THAT!

(Heh.  Yes, of course, you'll be able to save your stats from QFI 1 and take them to the sequel.)

Dammit, I was looking forward to shovel horse manure :(

Now I expect Bill as an easter egg as compensation

You ReaLLY want to shovel Shit?  Well than go to a farm guy. Lets leave the shit-shoveling for farmers and politicians ok?  Not for PC adventure games.  Perhaps the folks at IQ could make the next game "plumbers  quest the Search for Shit!"  LOl. :)

I know another game company that made a game about a plumber and that turned out pretty good ;)

Yes, but I believe "Jumpman" originally started out as a carpenter...

Whatever the case, I could make a game about a manure shoveler and it would be awesome.

Like a Homestarrunner game with the King of Town and the Poopsmith as lead characters.  I'd play that.

You could just play more Quest for Glory I. They even pay you to do it.

Why compete?  The Two Guys from Andromeda came out of semi-retirement to make that game for us... I backed it, and it's going to be freaking amazing.   8)

Pretty sure that once you've completed the fourth and fifth games, the big reveal would be that those were the prequels.

I'm thinking that QFI6 would have to become an ARG at that point, where each time you go to play, you find your saved game has advanced beyond where you were when you last stopped.  Who's been playing while you were away?  What is the coded message hidden in the save slot names?  And... how is Roehm calling you on your mobile from INSIDE THE HOUSE...

Actually, that would be a great selling point!

When QFG1 is released, you could have a line of advertising something like this:

"You know and loved QFI2, so IA created a back story to show how it all began.  Play the prequel to QFI2 -- the all-new QFI1 !!!"

Then, when QFI2 comes out...

"Remember how great QFI3 was?  Relive a brand-new, earlier adventure in the prequel QFI2 !!!"

And so on...

Wait... you mean someone would try to advertise that they've made game number 2 - which was already out there and established - in a series that was already well past that point, both story-wise and technologically? I can't see anybody being interested in a rerelease like that.

I'm sorry -- I didn't make myself clear.

It's a twist on the old "If you liked Game #1, then you'll love Game #2!" type of advertising -- but in reverse.

When QFI1 comes out, pretend that QFI2 has been out for several years (even though it doesn't technically exist yet), and that IA has made the prequel to the non-existent QFI2 because of such high demand: hence, QFI1 !

Guess it wasn't so clever in retrospect.  :-\  I blame lack of sleep on my part.  :o

Non-fans and everyone else won't care either way!

No, no, it was quite clever. I was just making fun of the fact that IA's most recent release was a remake of Space Quest II. Which, incidentally, is the second biggest obstacle to my doing a Let's Play series of Space Quest fangames. There are a bunch of them out there, and some of them are really good, but it wouldn't be complete without the SQII remake, and it might be a bit less interesting for people who watched my LP of the original to see most of the same puzzles again, even though the remake is different in plenty of ways.

The biggest obstacle, of course, is that I'm lazy, which really trumps any other concern if you think about it.

I totally got it, Goatmeal.  Beat the pants off my lame ass time travel joke  :P

Nidoking, do it!

Think of it as QFI promotion... folks may come to IA from your SQII LP series (link conveniently posted with each installment), discover KQIII, enter the forums and start begging for KQ:KoS, just to be told... "Hey!  Excited?  So are we... have you heard about this *new* awesome project, built from much of the same team?  Well... try this demo!  The Paypal is over here..."

Also, I would watch them.

Well, I do my Let's Plays for the Something Awful forum, and they probably wouldn't look too kindly if I treated it too much like a marketing venue, but I know I put the link to IA in the credits of the original Space Quest series LP (in which I played the Space Quest for Glory demo as a bonus feature), and I'd certainly post a link in the new thread when I got to SQII VGA. I'd also mention QFI as your latest project and link to the website, but I think I'd have to leave the logical leap of finding the Paypal button and making a donation to the reader's imagination for propriety reasons. I also doubt I'd get to it for a while - I think I'd do the earlier fan games first, because most of them are pretty bad and I want to save the good ones for later. Nothing like following SQII VGA with The Lost Chapter and then The Voyage Home.

EDIT: Oh, I see... you mean they'd see that on the IA forums. Yes, that would work nicely.

EDIT: Oh, I see... you mean they'd see that on the IA forums. Yes, that would work nicely.

Precisely;  as you say, it's a bit of a leap of faith that IA forum denizens will 1) be active, 2) have LP viewers come who clicked the link, and 3) actively engage the odd LP link clicker.  If it brings anyone, however, then that's just a bonus for something you've said you wanted to eventually get around to doing anyway.  Also (since I've got no other juice for my argument) I'd certainly watch them, and probably enjoy them quite a bit as well  :) Yours are good, and I love Sierra game LP's in general, so double bonus.

You've referred to QFI as "your latest project" as though it were somehow my project more than another backer's... was that colloquial or intentional?  I'd love it if folks here randomly began believing I was part of the team  ;)

Also, I'm fully aware of SA members' unwillingness to be gamed as such.  They can be quite nasty when provoked, and I want nothing to do with that wrath.

I was just confused. Regardless, it's something I'd like to do if I ever get the time and the motivation. The problem, like I said, would be slogging through some of the rather terrible fan games to get to the fun ones, and I don't think I can do those when there are still so many good games on my list. I guess I could play through them individually and just skip the bad ones, but then there would be even less reason for me to play through the SQII remake, since again, everyone already knows the story and has seen most of the content in another form.

But I think that's a bit off the topic of a QFI sequel, so I'll leave my own plans intentionally nebulous and just remind everyone to keep your endgame save on a floppy in a place you'll be able to find it. I know where all of my QFG characters are... do you?

Yep.  All 4 character type saves for QFG2-QFG4 (and 3 for QFG1, of course) from 1992-1995, safely packed away in a ZIP file from 1995 that has migrated from computer to computer, and from floppy disk to CD-R to back-up HD to flash drive.   ;)

Quite right, nidoking!  Mea culpa.

I know where all of my QFG characters are... do you?

Alas... all my DOS game information is lost.  It migrated all the way to backup hard drives, and in a double failure back in '07, I had a portable USB hard drive and a laptop drive go out simultaneously.  I have a disk image saved of the very damaged laptop drive data, and some day I intend to try to analyze it and save out some stuff, but that 30GB is now kicking around on my bigger, redundant backup drives, waiting as my save-game data once did...
