Title: power outage now game wont start up

I lost power midgame and now Im getting an error message
in "System.asc" line 597 from "GlobalScript.asc" line 278
i cant figure out how to open the game
I was in act 1 in Volksville right after talking to Kayaana at the base of the temple

Where did you buy it? Have you tried reinstalling the game?

I bought it through steam. I reinstalled it still same error message.

Hmm. yeah, this bit of code referenced has to do with saved games. The file might be corrupted from the power outtage.

I dont mind starting over this game evokes some serious nostalgia so I just want to play it. Any ideas at all would be helpful since I am functionally a computer simpleton.

Do you have any other saved game slots? Have you tried another saved game before the particular one that's not working?
If so, try it -- it might save you a lot of re-play time.

I do but the problem is not a corrupt save game but rather the game itself will not boot up. I just get an error message.

this could be the ags or even windows, did you run any sfc /scannow to make sure windows wasnt effected?
could be as simple as registry OR even STEAM.
there are guides on how to wipe steam stuff without erasing all your games (if you are on steam) if on gog no need there. just make sure to erase and reinstall gog client imo
power outages rarely cause issues with MOST games minus checkpoints, as they can cause corruption in saves but this as you pointed out is a booting game issue, leads me towards windows or the client(steam) being corrupt not just the game files or save..
easy way to check is have a friend test the save, but again if the issue is the game wont boot any errors? just nothing happens?
oddly that only error you put out IS ags code error.. idk mate!

deleted the steam files on my computer after backing up on cloud then deleted and reinstalled and bam all good thank yall

yep yep
when in doubt, erasing the core files of steam (but not steam apps etc) fixes MOST corruption within steam and its cloud/api
