Quest for Infamy / Game Complete! Review
« on: July 25, 2014, 07:18:21 PM »
Overall this game was an awesome experience and exceeded my expectations!  I grew up with the Quest for Glory series and this game was just the right mix of retrospective but with hilarious winks for a more adult audience  ;D   The tone, atmosphere, and story were absolutely excellent.  My favorite part of the game was starting out, exploring, talking to and meeting all the characters.  It was brilliantly done!

That said, I do have some constructive criticism as well:

Combat.  The combination of chain armor + block + bladearang is waaaay too powerful.  You are literally untouchable in combat.  I think its the fact that chain blocks all damage even if a block is missed that makes the combo too unbalanced.  And if you DO block it you even heal!  Put all this together and combat becomes trivial once you get chain armor.  This is disappointing because it takes a lot of the impact out of what should be the climactic Act 3 battles especially.

Puzzles.  The puzzling overall was great but I play the game more for the atmosphere and story.  Maybe it says something about me and how I approach these types of games but I got stumped a LOT!  Thank goodness for all the help I received here on the forums from people willing to take time away to help or I probably wouldn't have had the patience to try work through the game on my own.  In some cases the hints were there in-game & I just couldnt put the pieces together but in other cases some serious logical or exploratory leaps were required with few indications of what to do in-game.  In any case, remember that puzzling isn't always intuitive for some people & it can be helpful to put in more tiers of hints in-game for those of us who don't have the aptitude for these types of puzzles as other people but still want to experience a good pace of progression.

Economy.  I was REALLY poor early in the game but being a Quest for Glory vet I realized the succor to my trouble was to rob the bank.  The issue?  WAY TOO MUCH MONEY, as ironic as that seems.  I went from thinking 100 blythos was a lot to having 50,000.  It was sort of funny as a joke, but kind of broke the economy side of the game for me and made making decisions about what to buy much less interesting.  I just bought everything.

Pacing.  There is a LOT of content to explore early in the game, which I love!  But then things kind of stagnate in mid and late-game.  I would get stuck on a puzzle stage and not really have anything else to do in-game other then work on that puzzle step.  This would lead to frustration.  Obviously this is linked to my own inability to get through the puzzles with ease but mixing in more conversation content that only shows up mid- and late-game would help.  For example, Udo is supposed to have news and gossip but he never gets new conversation options!  That is one example of low-hanging fruit in this area

All in all though this game was brilliantly done!  I'll do my best to pass on recommendations to friends of mine that might be interested

Quest for Infamy / Act 3 getting help?
« on: July 25, 2014, 03:16:36 PM »
Hello!  So I'm in the section of Act 3 where you are gathering help to confront Rayford.  I've already gotten help from Ian and Jan.

However, I still can't get past the gates.  The hint says I can either get help to deal with the Morroi at the gates or find another way into the city.  In addition, the hint says someone at Volksville may be able to help.

Well, my first thought was just to use my map/sewers to get into Tyr.  However, my map is missing from my inventory.  I'm guessing this is intended?

After that I tried talking to everyone in Volksville.  I've hit everyone I could think of (except the strong guy in the pub who doesn't seem to want to appear right now) and no luck.  Any advice?

Thanks!

Quest for Infamy / Rune gate?
« on: July 25, 2014, 12:36:14 PM »
Hello!

I'm stuck on the section where Rayford asks you to kill the Morroi leader.  I'm guessing you have to get past the rune gate/green light that blocks the mountain path but I haven't figured a way past.  Anyone able to help?

Thanks!!

Quest for Infamy / Where is moonshiner?
« on: July 22, 2014, 02:38:38 PM »
Anyone know where I can find the moonshiner in early Act 2?  I have searched everywhere south that I can (Tyr, Aqueducts, etc.) but I'm not sure where he is at.  Is he past the hunters?  I still haven't figured out how to get past them   :-[

Quest for Infamy / blacksmith disappeared?
« on: July 22, 2014, 02:27:45 PM »
I've been playing for awhile and the blacksmith hasn't appeared in my town since early in Act 1.  I'm now early in Act 2 and finally have plenty of money to buy stuff but he never appears.  Anyone know why?

Quest for Infamy / family key?
« on: July 22, 2014, 12:57:43 PM »
So I have finally found all the pieces of the crest & put them in the crypt.  However, I still need the key to open it and dont have the faintest idea of where to start looking.  My thought was that Hummel would have a hint due to his "connection" to the crypt but no luck.   Any help?!

edit: so its been awhile since playing but I went through my inventory and read the Centai letter again.  Now I'm in the well in the orchard where I know the key must be due to the Centai symbol on the wall but I can't find anything out of place...stuck again!!!  Any help!?

Thanks!

Quest for Infamy / Servant piece?
« on: July 18, 2014, 10:08:15 PM »
Hi all, I'm stuck trying to get the servant piece of the crest (I have the master, living, and dead pieces).  I understand it has something to do with Japsworth.  When I talk to him at the pub he asks to step outside & then talks something about stealing alcohol from tree-house builders in the South.  I basically have no idea what he is talking about.

Am I at the stage where I need to get past the hunters to the SE (still havent managed to do that) or is there something else I am missing that I need to do with Japsworth?

Also, slightly off topic, but what is the purpose of the jelly cube in the swamp?  I discovered that while getting the Kyser wood but couldn't find any purpose for being there so just left.  Not sure if I'm missing something

Thanks!

Quest for Infamy / How to leave Tyr at night?
« on: July 18, 2014, 07:43:37 PM »
This has been bothering me for some time.  I realize its not an important quest task or anything but the prompt when you try leave the city indicates there is SOME way to leave Tyr at night...

Unfortunately all I have figured out is staying at the brothel for 50 gold until morning  :-[

Anyone get this figured out?

Quest for Infamy / How to collect beast blood?
« on: July 13, 2014, 02:41:01 PM »
I am playing as a rogue doing the first quest for Ian.  I have successfully killed the beast but cannot figure out how to collect its blood.  Any tips?

I have tried using an empty beer mug & drinking the healing potion in hopes it would give me an empty flask.  Nope.
