Quest for Infamy / Re: Re: QFI vs. Heroine's Quest
« on: July 31, 2014, 12:33:16 AM »
Personal preference is the thing with most of these comparisons anyway. I might find something in Heroines Quest completely unacceptable and someone else might love the game more because of it. Or someone might be offended at perceived sexism in QFI whereas someone else might see that it's satire. It all comes down to your view of the world I suppose.

That's the beauty of a story.  What the storyteller presents is only one half.  The other is based on what the listener brings in the form of expectations and interpretations.

I'm so glad we have both HQ and QFI.  They make me happy in different ways.

Yup, I walked into that one.

Aww, I don't think it's meant to insult anyone by calling one of the females in the game a bimbo.

I agree that it's not meant to insult, especially in a game that gives us wonderful female characters like Voleris and Kayanna.  Some lines just rubbed me the wrong way.  This line, and the one where Roehm says he has the constitution of a little girl stuck out a little for me, but I may just have a higher sensitivity to some lines.  (I've gotten a lot of crap in the past as the only woman in the lab.)

In contrast, Roehm's exchange with Voleris when he complains about being rescued by a woman in a bikini, and her telling him that one day he'll appreciate her ability to rescue him was absolutely fantastic, especially considering the ending!  I also enjoyed their banter in general.  It had just the right amount of sass!

It's certainly not game-breaking, but it is a little strange.

Quest for Infamy / Re: Infamy Points on the wiki

Well, I kept thinking of it as a blackbird.  I changed it...  :P

I take it this means that sort of stuff belongs on the wiki?

Quest for Infamy / Bug if attacked while sleeping
« on: July 27, 2014, 12:39:50 PM »
I haven't seen this one posted anywhere yet.  I decided to let Roehm sleep outside near Swart's camp, and I get a message that I'm attacked while asleep.  The battle screen comes up, but there's no enemy shown.  If I do something, the game crashes out with this message:

in "room299.asc", line 598

Error: AnimateCharacter: invalid loop number specified

If I just sit there and wait, I get this instead:

in "combat.asc", line 200
from "room299.asc", line 425

Error: AnimateCharacter: invalid loop number specified

It seems to be the same error, though.  I'm attaching a saved game called "stuff".  Because being attacked during sleep seems to be random, you may have to restore and sleep a few times before the attack kicks in.

Quest for Infamy / Re: Achievement for cheater ?

Plus the masters one has different responses depending on whether you know about the seal or not.

I noticed that!  I appreciate that attention to detail, especially since in adventure games you're supposed to try to get anything that's not nailed down (and in this game, even some things that are!).

Why don't you put it on the wiki?

http://questforinfamy.gamepedia.com/Quest_For_Infamy_Wiki

There's already a page for items.  Once I come up with a good format, I'll find a way to put my still-incomplete list of Infamy Points there as well.

Quest for Infamy / Re: Linux and QFI.

I played it through steam mostly on linux (gentoo).  I did play in Windows a bit as well (also through steam).  The saved games carried back and forth without any trouble.

You mean our appreciation (and secret scorn) isn't enough?  ;)

Aww, I hope you guys aren't too upset with the bugs we've found.  I'm having so much fun replaying the game and trying different things.  It's very rewarding having specific responses and surprise outcomes for trying things that in most other games would simply give the standard "you can't do that" response.  I'm quite impressed with how much you all thought to include.  It really does feel like three games in one!

Quest for Infamy / Error at night in Tyr at the apartment screen
« on: July 15, 2014, 04:03:12 PM »
Playing as a Rogue, at night in Tyr at the balcony screen, if Voleris walks on the screen, she's stuck crabwalking sideways and the game crashes soon afterward.  I'm playing through Steam.  In Linux I see no error message, but in Windows I get this error:

Error: Unable to render character 43 (Volaris) because loop 2 does not exist in view 495

I don't believe it's a full game-stopper because I can save, leave the screen, and interact with things on the screen as long as Voleris doesn't show up.

I'm attaching what I believe to be the correct saved game for this error.  If it is the right one, it'll be called "game crash".

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Quest for Infamy / Re: Walkthrough, hints etc?
« on: July 14, 2014, 11:48:41 AM »
I'd love to have a good answer for you here, but honestly, we %*&$$ that one right up. All I can do is apologise at this point and say that in our first update this will be fixed. The way the game stands right now, there is no way to get the achievement (although I'm pretty sure you've already worked that out!)

Ah, that's ok.  The programmer in me was just trying to figure out if it would be awarded when the stats were maxed out for a class, even at values less than 100, or if somehow the maximum achieved value for each stat was stored outside the saved games (like the Indiana Jones IQ points in Fate of Atlantis).  That way it could be achieved by maxing out the missing stats with a second character.  I'd be curious to hear how it's eventually implemented!

Aha!  I got it!

Spoiler (hover to show)

And it is indeed a labelling problem.  It turns out that all inventory items incorrectly bring about that "someone loves..." message.  Mystery solved!
