Title: Quest for Infamy demo 2.0 - NOW AVAILABLE
Post by: Broomie on February 09, 2013, 06:30:04 AM
Finally! Quest for Infamy demo 2.0 is now available to download from our QFI page (http://). Now available for Linux too!

(http://www.infamous-quests.com/home/images/qfi-demo2.jpg) (http://www.infamous-quests.com/home/index.php?page=qfi)

What's new?

There's more to explore! The Valley of Krasna has expanded and there's so much more to see. Our artists have been hard at work to bring the land to life and we're really excited to show you what we've been up to!

New characters and more shops open for business! Volksville has had an economic boost since the last demo and many shops are open for business so don't forget to pop in and say hello!

More music, more battles and more everything. The keyword here is more and that's what any new demo is about. More stuff! So hopefully you'll be making your way to the QFI page and giving it a spin.

Hope you enjoy! If you have any questions or feedback you can put it in the Quest for Infamy forums. (http://www.infamous-quests.com/forum/index.php?board=10.0)

And don't forget, if you backed the game you get access to our new backers forum which is now officially open! Please see this thread  (http://www.infamous-quests.com/forum/index.php?topic=503.0)for more information.

This was fun.

The voices sounded kinda off in the SW of town near the river.

I liked all the new areas, they were very well-designed.  It felt kinda empty though, not much to do or people to interact with.

I enjoyed fighting the random pig-thingey guy.

My biggest dissapointment was that the demo ends at the exact same place the other one did. :(  I was hoping to finally get to do some thieving, magicking and briganding.

One thing I would recommend is adding a point system.  The reason adventure games had them (and gave them pleasant jingles) was because of the "casino effect". (psychological)  It's just kind of fun and gives you an idea that you're on the right track.

It also adds replayability in people wondering "how do I get the maximum score" if they finish with like 480 of 500 points.

The game also has the same "unwinnable bug" if you fail to get the fish oil before nightfall comes and want to be a thief. (I got the FO beforehand, not sure if the game has it so you can only go with the thieves if you get that oil)

Also, I think it'd help if the game gave little hints when you died in certain areas on what to do, I know adventure games did that a lot as a kind of clue to the puzzle to solve.

Finally, it seems kind of odd that the perfume merchant doesn't act disturbed in the slightest when you pull out a sword and stab the guy's head on a pike open.  I don't know what medieval "corpse treatment etiquitte" would be for criminals, but it seems odd.

It's not an unwinnable bug.  You can make "fish oil" in some other way.

As for seeing beyond the end - that's what the full game is for!  This was just a little taste of the game - a demo, for sure.

One last thing- for fighting systems, this one seemed to remind me kind of QFG4 I think?

But of all the QFG games, I think QFG2 VGA had the best arcade fighting system.

I don't know, it's too early to tell.  The game seems to reward you for picking the right attack move in response to enemy attacks.  In my opinion, the combat system's the one thing I'd really want to change the most right now, to make it more exciting..

Game works fine but when I tried to conifgure it, I get told that qfi_emo.exe is not in the folder. I just seem to remember someone saying their is an option of playing in higher res and while I am all about old school I thought it would be cool to see what that looks like.

Apologies for that, Rugged!  This should help you out:

Just a heads up. The winsetup.exe packaged with v2 of the Demo is looking for QFI_DEMO.exe, but the filename of the game executable is QFI_DEMO2.exe. You can't run the setup utility unless you rename it.

Ahhh that was simple... thanks :) Making adjustments in the settings doesn't really seem to change the look of the graphics? Is their a particular option that I need to select to see the graphics in a higher res? I am happy with the old school look was just interested

The HQ2x or 3x filter will make the graphics looks more smooth, but it's a plugin effect.  The graphics are natively made in low resolution.

I got the announcement front-paged over at Gaming on Linux, with 200 views so far.  It was my first submission to that site, so I kinda messed it up a little.  Specifically, I thought that the front page teaser above the image got pasted above the image in the article... and it does not.  So, once clicked into the article, they have to copy/paste a URL to go to the download page.

Anyway:  http://www.gamingonlinux.com/ (http://www.gamingonlinux.com/)
Full article:  http://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/quest-for-infamy-linux-demo.1727 (http://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/quest-for-infamy-linux-demo.1727)

It is written for a Linux audience, so spotlighting the lack of a Mac release is not intended to disparage anyone, just remark on the situation and (hopefully) make each Linux download feel a bit more special.

That said... has anyone even downloaded the Linux version?  Gosh, I hope so  :-\

Yep, I believe we have a post with issues/bugs a linux user has found so far!  That's what you wanted to hear, right? ;)

Just a quick note that I think needs to be said! We have added a lot more to the game before and since this demo we've put out. Including updates to the battle system and story line. We didn't want to reveal too much in the demo as far as that goes, but just know that there is much left to be seen!

The demo does it's job for what it is, but there is plenty, PLENTY, that we couldn't share! and of course the game is getting upgraded daily.

Cheers to all our backers and supporters!

Yes, it is basically a look around the new artwork, music and characters. There is very little gameplay, that would ruin the final game... Just wait for all the wonderful things you'll be able to do soon!

Yep, I believe we have a post with issues/bugs a linux user has found so far!  That's what you wanted to hear, right? ;)

Not having at least one long, detailed, bug report from a Linux user was starting to freak me out a little.  I see the winky smile, but, damn Corrigan... that bug report is actually exactly what I wanted to see (believe it or not).

The logic goes like this... if a couple dozen Linux gamers download a game, at least one will have some niche setup.  It could be hand-modified, it could be a less prominent distro, it could be a niche hardware.  Whatever.  Usually, the changes needed to get her (or he) going turn out to actually slightly improve things for everyone by smoothing out a rough corner of the code.

Seeing no reports had me feeling like nobody was even trying, which is far worse!  Now, I think there are a group of folks out there, happily point-and-clicking like nobody's business.

As far as bug-report-dude, we'll get his wagon fixed  8)

Cool!

One last thing I'll add, I don't know if this is planned or not, but it'd be nice if the main character had some kind of armor, and a way to measure his attack/defense level.  It seems odd he'd fight without even a leather tunic.

Also, some kind of weight carrying system would be nice too.  As for buying stuff in the game, I don't know if buying fancy rare items in investing in special business ventures (thief hideout?  New Brigand gear?  WHOREHOUSE?!) would work best, but it'd be pretty cool!

Also, not quite certain, but this game may have a speed bug similar to QFG2 VGA.  I've seen speed move randomly from turtle to "guy on drugs" in the the 1st demo while demo 2 has just remained turtle. (well, not "turtle", move like average)

Also, bug- when the blacksmith walks on the screen, there are sound effects.

Coming back to him, the sound effects are a bit off and randomish.

Post by: Bad2DaBone on February 11, 2013, 10:41:46 PM
I was about to say it's a bug, but QFG2 does the same with with water elemental + raseir fountain basically "good idea but try it later".

I won't say what it is, want to see if anyone else can find out. ;)

One buggy thing though, is the amount of hatred the PC has for Rayford before even meeting him. (that is, being able to smash in his house)  It might make more sense later in the game than beforehand, or at least it shouldn't occur until after they've met.

Hah, that was actually one of the things that annoyed me about QFG, the dang weight limit... ;)

I'm really loving all the beautiful screens in the new demo...I admit, at first I was a bit sad that not much more of the storyline or gameplay was revealed.  But I get it.  This is a demo, and actually shows a pretty generous amount of the land & town area and of all the characters.  The music is pure genius...perfectly sets the tone of gameplay.  I know the final game will be amazing, no question.

Keep up the great work you guys...

First of all, congratulations to everyone on the team, the demo looks really good. I haven't backed the project yet because I found out about it today, but I intend to do so.

Now for my 'bug report', I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but when I am changing screens and the music doesn't switch to another theme, it loops 2-3 times while the new screen is loading. It happens every time while walking around town for example.

Thanks for playing, and taking the time to help out here!

If you could tell us what system you're running the game on, it'd help us to replicate and nail down the problem.

Win 7 64bit home premium, service pack 1

If you need any more system info and/or video demonstrating the music loop let me know

The music looping could be an ags bug and not a bug in the game itself.   The video would definately help!  I have seen the exact same issue in other ags games on my computer.  I will look into it and see if we can either find an issue in the game or a work around for it.

Is there a way to run the demo on windowed mode? Can't find how to record it with fraps otherwise. Please PM me so as not to spam the thread too much.

No way is that spam!  More Let's Plays & fraps, dude!  Spreading the word is the best thing us fans can do.

Even if it's for reporting a bug, in this case  ;)

In your "acsetup.cfg" file, change "windowed=0" to "windowed=1".  There is a Windows setup utility in the game directory also, but I don't know how it works (I'm a Linux dude).

Run the setup file before starting the game. There is a option to either run in windowed mode or full screen there. Just check or un check it accordingly!

The problem with running the start-up file is that it looks for "QFI_DEMO.exe" while the exe is named "QFI_DEMO2.exe"

You have to rename "QFI_DEMO2.exe" to just "QFI_DEMO.exe" to get setup to work.  It's a little bug we overlooked....

Here's a video with the sound problem:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=_36as3C0EE4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_36as3C0EE4#)

Some things I noticed; I recorded this video using the Hq3x filter and it took a tiny bit more time to
load the next screen, so the sound loop lasted a bit longer. Sometimes it is almost unnoticeable (0-1 loop).
Also if a crow happens to squeak when I'm changing screens then the squeak will loop along with the music tune.

I had this glitch before but it turned out my pc was busy in the background doing a windows backup. make sure your computer isn't doing anything big diskwise in the background.  backup or defrag windows updates etc

I wasn't running anything else on the background. But playing a little with the install settings, the problem seems to disappear after switching from DirectDraw to D3D!
