Mac testers required
« on: February 24, 2013, 09:45:33 AM »
Hey guys,

We've been working on our Mac port and we need help testing it. If you've got a Mac feel free to try it out and let us know of any issues.

Specifically we're looking for people with later versions of Mac OS to test on e.g Mountain Lion, Lion. If you have these we would appreciate it if you could test the build out for us and let us know if it works.

http://www.infamous-quests.com/downloads/file.php?id=5

(Remember to place the QFI folder in Applications)

So if you do download it, please reply to this thread what version of Mac OS you have and if it works or doesn't work. Thanks!

Thanks! I will pass this around. I guess I'm a hipster because most of my friends/colleagues use Macs now. :(

This seems to be the slowest download ever, so I won't be able to get back to you tonight, but hopefully I'll have some sort of response tomorrow. :)

I gave this a quick test on my Mountain Lion 10.8.3 (beta) Mac Mini 2011 (5.2 - the model with a Radeon graphics chip), the only modifications to the machine from standard is the installation of 16GB of RAM.

Input devices are an Apple Magic Touchpad and an Apple Wireless Keyboard with Danish layout.

Sound output is done over a SoundBlaster USB soundcard but I expect that the built in output works just as well.

Pros:
Installation works flawlessly and as expected. Sound is clear and undistorted and the graphics, with the exception of the occasional appears of a large arrow pointer which should not be there and is unmovable, are working as expected and appear as advertised in full classic adventure glory.
No crashes were experienced during testing.

Cons:
The controls are very poorly suited for the Magic Touchpad (and I suspect any other default Mac input devices). cycling through actions e.g. often leads to randomly activating them on the screen. This led to the testing session being fairly short due to frustration. It would greatly improve the experience if effort was put into making the control work better with such input devices.

Overall the game works as expected and the experience is good given the stage of development. The only suggestion for improvement would be input handling for typical OS X input devices.

I agree about the input issues.  For some reason AGS doesn't seem to want to recognize Control-Click as a substitute for right-click.  Unless I am doing something wrong.

A decent stop-gap solution would be to implement keyboard shortcuts for all actions.
Lambonius...Rarely has our moderating team encountered a forumite as consistently unpleasant as you, and you've burned through far more chances than you deserved. A person really has to try hard to be so obnoxious that they're banned from AG, but you've managed it and then some.

Played this through the Rogue quest.   Had no problems running the game.   Didn't have any control issues with my trackpad (I do turn off tapping, since I hate it).    During dialog where the scroll arrows can be used, I sometimes asked the last question over again because the "hit" box around the arrow seems smaller than the arrow.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010 w/ 8GB
Mountain Lion 10.8.2

MBP late 2011 running OS X Mountain Lion, game worked great. Might be nice to have a windowed version though.

I played it on a 2011 iMac Quad-i7, running Lion. It worked fine. I didn't complete it (didn't have time), but it launched fine and I went through a bunch of screens and interacted with a bunch of things and didn't run into any trouble.

A couple of lines of dialogue were bizarrely quiet compared to the rest.

Other than that, my only real feedback is that I find it weird having a message come up on screen, hearing it read aloud, and then having the message remain on the screen until I click it away. Having it disappear on its own after it's read aloud or after a period of time seems like it would be better.

Just got around to playing the demo and have to say it works perfectly... Tried out most of the games options - Save, restore, dialogues, audio, speed controls, icon change, screen change... Had no problems with it!!! The only "issue" is that the touchpad doesn't work very well, i mean, it works but it could be tweaked...

This is great that it seems to be working alright so far. All the in-game issues that have been reported will probably happen in the PC version so it doesn't appear to be Mac specific. As long as the game launches, doesn't crash out and plays alright I'm quite certain we can roll this one out very soon. :)

I'd like to see if we can look into an alternative for the Control-Click substitute. I have a Macbook too so it is annoying but we can certainly look into it. Lamb's idea of the keyboard short cut seems like a decent solution for now e.g 1 walk 2 look 3 talk etc.

Thanks everyone! Do keep testing and try to get to the end! Brownie points to whoever can break it!

Demo II appears to be running on an iMac late 2009 with i7 running Mountain Lion.

The config smiling does not work, since it points to /Users/waves/... I'm, guessing waves is a developer for QFI.
When I run the config app manually from the terminal I get a window that allows me to change a few settings, but the resolution appears to be fixed at 320x240 (which is pretty old-school for on a 27" screen :) )

I do have to say that I'd consider using wine cheating ;)

Yes - we are working on a native port; hopefully that should be working with no errors by the time we launch the game.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I tried it a while ago but was too busy to come back and report until now. Played it on a 2011 iMac running Lion and it was fine.
