There is a legitimate use for it in QFI 1.1.
Lambonius...Rarely has our moderating team encountered a forumite as consistently unpleasant as you, and you've burned through far more chances than you deserved. A person really has to try hard to be so obnoxious that they're banned from AG, but you've managed it and then some.

I poured 90 hours into this game last year, ya can just tell me.  :(

Sides, it seems kinda useless and dinky, unless you can turn it into armor or choke the Kraken with it.

As originally planned it was used as part of the Necromancers quest in creating Franky. You would have had to fight the worm creatures that you see dead in that particular room and then get a piece of the scale to give her. We cut it due to time constraints.

As Lamb said, it's useful in 1.1 though to access one of the new areas.
