Question about using a 360 controller on your computer
« on: September 28, 2014, 04:12:04 PM »
Okay, so I like to use my 360 controller to play games on my computer, mainly older ones.

I've done this for years without problems but in the last months it's been acting iffy on me.

After putting in the controller it'll start to make weird noises and flash lights- then it'll either stop working or my character will be moving permanently in one direction on some old SNES game.
It only works if I unplug it, turn off the emulator, and try again- but after a few minutes it does this over and over again.

I've tried additional USB slots on the computer with the controller- none of them work right with my controller.  They all act the same way. However, these slots works perfectly without flaw for keyboard, mouse, etc., anything that's not my 360 controller.

Does anyone have any idea what on earth is going on?  I don't think my USB slots are damaged since they happily work with other things perfectly (like my mouse and keyboard).

well

1. what driver you using

2. for me i hate xbox so i use a ps4 controller, but it requires an emulator i use ds3 tool,
do you use anything

3. just find the driver, for the gamepad/controller  and get a new ver, or the same one and reinstall it..

also try a new controller..

let me know if u emulate,
but 360 controllers suck for pc mostly, gamepads are the way to go for pc gamepad gaming, but a 360 will work, just needs drivers
(sometimes the break or get corrupted,
removal and reinstall works just fine for that

but if its emulated, like me ds3, or its say the controller, got to rule those out

Kaldire is right on the money here.  You can get them to work, but i'd just spend the cash and buy a gamepad for your pc.  Less headache and less bullshit. :)

So.... what's the best gamepad to buy then?  There are so many to choose from.

I use a Logitech F510. It works well and I haven't had any issues with it during the 18 months that I've had it. It's one of those not too expensive and not too cheap gamepads. You can always search Google for top 10 gamepads or something of the sort.  ;)

best?
cheapest?
logiiiiitech gamepad

most games love it

MOST, not all, some like urmm lame fable anni says 360 controller, but its all lies
lol can play it with my ps3 controller, annnyway

whats odd is, a ps3 or xbox 360 if you take it to gamestop here, they offer 28$ for one,
the hdmi cable costs more than that!
a controller too

i did see a nice logitech gamepad at frys  (a local store here) for only 19.99$ and had rumble n all that jazz
so forking over 30-40$ for a new 360 controller seems idiotic

buuuut
until you do get a new controller, id ask again
are you emulating? aka using something other than just pluggin it in and praying it works?

if not try ds3 tool, (it has bloatware but.. shrug)

i use it for my ps2 emu  ps3 controller with it

if u arent using an emu, only SOME games will see the 360 controller
most get confused easy esp if not coded right
BUT if it was working now its not?
its either a corrupt driver, or a bad controller,
not the usb port

most likely (and this has happened to me)
its the connector to the usb on the controller ( and if ur using wireless thats prolly a huge issue there)

let us know and btw what region you in. so i can look at gamepad pricing,  most go on sale here for 10-20$
and i STILL wont buy one.. just to me.. they ruin the pc experience,
shrug

but they are great for emu on my pc thats ahh nm
lol

 :(

oh sorry talking to myself again

my bill this month was supposed to be 78$  134$ is my normal bill for 200mbit net and 2 tvs with movie channels, but i got a 291$ bill this month sooo im crapping my pants and waiting for comcast to open in 7 hours.. sigh

opened a case with the fcc and BBB soooo yea

? fun?
i digress
let us know what u use, if you just plug n pray  ahem play, or emulate, wireless or not... etc

haha as i typed my message you posted the same controller id recommend give or take a model or two depending on sales ( that same controller atm is 40-50 USD, but ive seen them 19.99 most often on sale at fry's so it all depends where u live and sales, esp like back to school or such sales or black friday (sounds racist to me always has) we dont have white friday! or tan.. hmm

I'm almost ready to get it but I just gotta know two things...

1. Does it have those annoying ridges on the Up, Down, Left and Right parts of the thumbsticks  the same way that 360 controllers do?

2. Does that thing in the middle light up a lot when plugged in the way that XBox One controllers do?

all depends on the model

if i were you
depending on where you live id go look at one physically

best way to tell

yes it has a light (it shows its charging and plugged in.. almost all have that
as for the ridges  you are talking xbox one? or 360?

never had a controller with ridges but you wont be using the pad to often
not sure how thats an issue, they are there for better ease of use so you dont slip your fingers ...
shrug

dont BUY THAT at that price!
sheesh
look around
kinda odd if you are willing to pay 40-50$ for a controller you can get the same one for half price..
look around!
go  to a computer or hardware/tv/pc store like frys or best buy..etc

just my opinion

also you havent really answered anything about your owned controller to warrant buying a new one..
shrug

Actually I switched from 360 to XBox One and the new controller works pretty well. :)

I'm just curious how much better the F510 is.

I'm curious if it has the same kinds of ridges as the 360 controller and it's lightweight like a 360 controller or more heavy like an XBox One controller.

its not as heavy as the hard core controller, but
the one i have had ridges on it..

and yea odd the xbox one controller worked.. makes me thing that old controller u had was going bad or the port usb wise is loose..
so well at least you got it working!

anyway i prefer logitech over any microgamepad any day
