Banter and Chit-Chat! / Updating computer codecs
« on: October 01, 2014, 06:54:45 PM »
How do you update computer codecs?

I don't know quite what it's called just that it's all the stuff which enables you to watch movies, tv shows, etc. on your computer without any issue and that it periodically needs to be updated.

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Is "the original Wasteland 2" a good game?

I know this game has a bad rep and is insanely hard- nevertheless, I am quite curious to play it.

Unfortunately, Richard Cobbett's reviews are notoriously unreliable half the time so I'm curious what you guys all think. :) (the only certainty with him is that if he actually likes a game without flaming it too badly then it's probably a really good game)

Okay, so I like to use my 360 controller to play games on my computer, mainly older ones.

I've done this for years without problems but in the last months it's been acting iffy on me.

After putting in the controller it'll start to make weird noises and flash lights- then it'll either stop working or my character will be moving permanently in one direction on some old SNES game.
It only works if I unplug it, turn off the emulator, and try again- but after a few minutes it does this over and over again.

I've tried additional USB slots on the computer with the controller- none of them work right with my controller.  They all act the same way. However, these slots works perfectly without flaw for keyboard, mouse, etc., anything that's not my 360 controller.

Does anyone have any idea what on earth is going on?  I don't think my USB slots are damaged since they happily work with other things perfectly (like my mouse and keyboard).

I've spent countless days worth of time on the Sega Saturn emulator with no luck....

Well, I give up, I can't do it on my own.

If anyone wants to help me I'll send you $20.  That's enough for a nice lil' meal somewhere or some Steam games.  Besides, I heard Dragon Force is a kick-ass RPG so it's not like you wouldn't enjoy playing it if you could emulate it.

Banter and Chit-Chat! / This is why I can't stand Richard Cobbett

"...the equally terrible King’s Quest II: That F***ing Bridge got a few years back"

The frickin' hell man?  KQ 2 was an AMAZING remake of the game and all this f'er has to say about it is to essentially drop his pants and take a hot steaming load off on it.

"Labion, to the asinine story that features series baddy Sludge Vohaul (who wasn’t even mentioned in the first game) downgrading his ambitions from trying to blow up planets with a super-weapon to infesting one with an army of cloned insurance salesmen. True, Space Quest isn’t exactly known for its deep, emotive sci-fi plotlines, but that’s still really bloody stupid."

Dude.  IT'S A FUCKING GAME ABOUT A JANITOR WITH A MOP SAVING THE WORLD!  A lot of comedy has stupid humor!  Did he complain non-stop when he watched Dumb and Dumber?  Does he get annoyed when he sees how stupid characters like the 3 Stooges?  A lot of comedy revolves around dumb premises.

It's a comedy game.  My reaction was just to laugh at the silly joke, not take it so damn literally.

He also dumped on QFG 4.5 as well.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/06/09/saturday-crapshoot-quest-for-glory-4-12/

"Quest for Glory 4.5 kicks off later, with the Hero attending the 10 year reunion for his... correspondence school course? I'm not sure if that's meant to be a joke, or just the creator having no idea what those words mean, never mind how to put them into a sentence. Hearing the event speaker describe his heroism as "a shoddy job of heroing that left that poor valley worse off than it was before" though, he slinks back to finish what he started. Cue game! And trying not to think too hard about canon!"

The hell man?!  It's a frickin' joke!  The correspondence school heroism course is actually canonical!  He probably thinks that Frasier is the pinnacle of comedy and that everything else on tv sucks!

I really can not stand this guy -at all.-  He's very obnoxious and pretentious and he acts like his opinions are all the word of God.  He's like an annoying version of AVGN minus the humor.  But because he's somehow gotten a reviewing job at some website he's been able to make reviewing classic games his cottage cheese industry, causing his putrid reviews to enter into the lake of popular opinions.

Quest for Infamy / My biggest gripe about Infamy Points-
« on: August 13, 2014, 03:11:05 AM »
Why is there no badass sound effect or song when you score them?

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Favorite videogame magazines of the 80's/90's

So what were your favorite gaming magazines from the oldschool days?

I really like Nintendo Power as well as EGM.

Quest for Infamy / Unused Items
« on: July 31, 2014, 08:14:58 PM »
I'm just curious but are the food plate and nails good for anything?

Also, does Ina ever try to cash in the favor she asks of you in exchange for taking the plate?

Quest for Infamy / Shouldn't map usage pass time?
« on: July 30, 2014, 05:37:42 PM »
I'm just curious but shouldn't using the Map (Tunnel one or regular one) pass time?

It's basically like a teleportation device- even if you go from deep in the mines to the Thieves Guild, it still doesn't make any time pass in the game.

Quest for Infamy / QFI vs. Heroine's Quest
« on: July 29, 2014, 02:29:43 PM »
I've played both and, to be honest, I really prefer QFI.

I think the story is more original, the characters more colorful, the humor funnier and the world a more epic place to explore.  The main character is also more interesting and well-defined whereas HQ is more of the generic do-gooder.

Still, I will give credit to HQ for having a better and more complex combat system.  Even though combat's the biggest complaint for QFI, adventure games are more about the adventure than anything else and there's always Skyrim for crazy combat options.

Despite preferring QFI, HQ is still a very good game I'd recommend to others. :) (but do play a Fighter with Fast Talk and Magic, with a later in-game upgrade to Sneak or Herbalism your first time through)

Quest for Infamy / Cave Gnoll tobacoo- multiple reactions better?
« on: July 28, 2014, 05:09:39 PM »
Just curious but shouldn't the Cave Gnoll have different reactions to each type of tobacco that you can give him?

He reacted the same to the cheap stuff vs. the marijuana-like stuff, which seemed kinda off.

It'd be nice if he gave better rewards with each higher quality of tobacco you give him. (ie, you get some nice piece of treasure that you can sell in one of the towns to somebody)

Quest for Infamy / The one line from the narrator that bugged me
« on: July 28, 2014, 03:30:48 PM »
Okay, I don't want to sound like "Dick Cobblepott" (real name withheld) and get on top of some sort of "Male Feminist Crusader" high-horse, but there was one line in the game that seemed needlessly sexist.

As a Sorcerer the game refuses to let you give excess bees to that one beekeeper girl.  It says something like, "Don't give that bee to that bim!  You need it for Prospero!"  It does that even before Prospero tells you he needs it.

The main problem with the line is that the girl in question doesn't exhibit any negative qualities that would qualify her as a bimbo.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bimbo

She seems fairly intelligent, hard-working and down to earth, and doesn't act promiscuously, so it seems unfair that the Narrator insultingly calls her a bim from out of nowhere.

Quest for Infamy / Bug testing
« on: July 27, 2014, 05:13:20 PM »
Btw, just curious but any chance any of the people catching bugs for future patches can get their names in the credits as post-release testers? ;)
