Hi friends, and backers.  My name is Steve, otherwise known as "Bt", and I'm one of the leaders of this here operation, and I'm a Writer, Producer and Director on "Quest For Infamy"!

I've gotten to know many of you over the these past months, and it's been awesome - hopefully, in this backer's forum, you'll find, see, and explore more goodies of the game and get insight into its production.

We'll also be releasing exclusives - like playable demos, deleted stuff, maybe even hits at future ideas.

Around here, though - we want you to be involved.  I want you to be involved. I'll be posting various kinds of random blogs in this here thread of mine - but you can also ask me questions here.

With that, welcome to the backer's forum!!!

Quest for Infamy / The Development of a Background - The Farm Orchard
« on: January 19, 2013, 02:02:22 PM »
Hello faithful backers!  Bt here - I'm going to talk about the development of a background in Quest For Infamy.

This background is the eastern portion of the Farm fields just outside of the town of Volksville.  The crops are all located behind a little fence, just off the main road into Volksville.

This background harks all the way back to just after the Kickstarter, when we brought Jason Lamb aboard the team to serve as a background artist.  I had an idea for this area, and so I discussed what I wanted with Jason.  I will sometimes make up a very crude sketch, which has become known around these parts as a "Steve Sketch  " - which contains the basic details of a background as I see it.

And then, because I was feeling saucy - I did a poorly colored version.

So I gave Jason this (awful) sketch and we conversed about what should be in the scene - I knew it needed Apples on the back end, so we went with that.  We decided to have the view (camera angle, if you will) be at 3/4's, so the road would go diagonally across the screen.  Lambo took my suggestions, and the sketch and began to work.  Soon, he had a basic sketch that looked like this.

He showed me, I approved and told him to continue - so he added some grass textures.

Jeremy Kitchen, our art director, and I looked it over and had him keep working on it.  More details emerged.

Jason worked hard on creating some interesting foreground elements, like the cart on a small hill in the extreme foreground.   Working with the team, Jason, Jeremy and I got all the elements in place, and Jason finally finished up this piece - and the background was done! He moved on to another screen, and so did we - and we were happy.

Later on down the road, in the development of the game - as the director, I decided that this screen needed a split in the road to lead off down south - and that having the screen on an angle just wouldn't work that way.  So I decided we were going to have to edit/re-do this background.

I did a quick job in photoshop to show Jason what I meant.

He took the edit I made, and basically took the background back to the studs, so to speak - and rebuilt it from the ground up.

Each layer and iteration, he added more and more detail, building upon the foundations he laid.  He'd share his progress on each level with Jeremy and I.

And finally, the background was completed and this is how it looks, in game, right now.

It's pretty amazing how many iterations this background has had - but it's all been worth it, because Jason has produced a beautiful background for our game.  Sometimes, this is how it goes on this project - we'll go back and change something, and have to start all over - but the enthusiasm of the team, and workers like Lambo, are what keep the quality of this project amazing!

I hope you've enjoyed this little look at the development of a background!

IQ Chat / Adventure X article at Adventure Gamers!
« on: January 19, 2013, 10:46:49 AM »
Adventure Gamers has a great article about Adventure X in London, which Broomie, Matt and Matt attended for IQ and presented Quest For Infamy there!  The article is great, it not only features coverage of our game (and a sly attempt by the author to pilfer a coveted IQ mug) but also features many other great games coming out soon!

Give it a read, adventure fans!

IQ Chat / Musing on Adventure Games
« on: December 17, 2012, 02:10:14 PM »
Taking on the task to create and produce a new Adventure Game is a monumental task - one that encompasses so many different areas, all of interest to me personally.  Creating the story, inventing characters, situations, motivations and crafting puzzles are some of them.  Helping to develop the art and music, and working with an incredibly talented to team to bring these visions to life is amazingly rewarding.  I was just listening to some new music that James Mulvale composed recently - and it's a joy to share in the creation of something with another artist.

So, of course, my mind wanders to not only our game, but adventure games in general.  I know what I enjoy in an adventure game, but I'm also making one for all of the people out there.  I really care what our fans an friends think about adventure games - so I pose several loaded questions to you - "What do you like about adventure games?  What do you look for in an adventure game?  What draws you to adventure games?"

Quest for Infamy / Pulsing, pounding work
« on: November 08, 2012, 01:51:17 PM »
Hey guys,

Bt here.

Just posting a little bit about the pulsing, pounding work going on here at IQ on Quest For Infamy.

Seriously - the team has been cranking out the art and animations for the game like crazy.  It's insane, really.  We're also putting all the ducks in a row and getting the programming done for the new Demo V 2.0 - which will be released in December for all the current backers of Quest For Infamy.  It will be released later for the general public.

I've attached here some of the promotional shots that we've released from Quest For Infamy so far, for anyone who may have missed them.

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Stupid laptop keyboard
« on: October 21, 2012, 06:54:41 PM »
So, certain keys on my laptop keyboard just aren't working.  Including the space-bar and return key....

To be fair, it was a little dirty and had some crumbs in it, heh, but this happened all of a sudden like a half hour ago.  Also, this USB keyboard I plugged into has more junk in it than a 60 day old beehive hairdo and it works fine....

Any tips?  It's an Acer 4540.

Banter and Chit-Chat! / GOG.com Sale - Quest Games!
« on: October 05, 2012, 11:00:19 AM »
This weekend, Activision Classic are on sale for 60% off!  This includes almost all of the "Quest" games you could ever want, also the Gabriel Knight Series, Torin's Passage... many others!  Check it out here!

http://j.mp/GOGActivision

I just bought a bunch.  I have many of these on CD-ROMS and stuff, but I honestly have most of them in storage, and breaking out my CD-ROMs sucks.  For 4 bucks, I got entire series, digitally stored on GoG.com so I can go there when I need them, get 'em anytime, anywhere... plus, they're all designed to work on our modern systems, with pre-configs for DosBox... it's nice.  Also, QFGIV is patched properly in this collection, so hey - you can play it without bugs!

IQ Chat / Bt eats Marmite to Prove His Love for QFI and IQ
« on: September 24, 2012, 09:24:16 AM »
Broomie enjoys marmite.  He enjoys it on toast.

I do not.  I once had marmite on a dare, and I spent hours scraping my tongue, and drinking from a toilet bowl to get the taste out of my mouth.

However, with encouraging from Mr. Broom - I, Bt, have decided to eat Marmite on Toast to prove my love for all things Infamous Quest, and our beloved game, Quest For Infamy.

This will all be happening live - details to follow.  Needless to say, it may be in your interest to watch me eat Marmite.  It could be entertaining.

As I said, keep your eyes on the site for more details.

Here's the video!

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Manhunter
« on: September 21, 2012, 03:50:08 PM »
So,  I've been playing the "Manhunter" games by Sierra.  Man, they were really ahead of their time.  The story is really cool - it's dark and mysterious, long before the trope was over-used.  Very cool.

I would love to see Manhunter revived - someone getting the IP rights, remaking the first two and completing the third game as well.  I think they'd look very nice in a modern remake.
