Is "the original Wasteland 2" a good game?
« on: September 30, 2014, 06:55:29 PM »

I know this game has a bad rep and is insanely hard- nevertheless, I am quite curious to play it.

Unfortunately, Richard Cobbett's reviews are notoriously unreliable half the time so I'm curious what you guys all think. :) (the only certainty with him is that if he actually likes a game without flaming it too badly then it's probably a really good game)

you kidding?

serious?

wasteland 2 ROCKS

wasteland 1 ROCKS

whoever gave it a bad review prolly did so in beta or early access phase when it was really wonky

is it hard.. HELL YES

its not a game for the feint of heart and it wont hold your hand

check out "marauder" also
or any of the jagged alliances
same deal only.. much more complicated

i love wasteland 2
my only regret? not getting the hard box copy!
grr

Are you talking about the Wasteland 2 from the early 90's with the nigh-godly Killer Klowns?

no Bad he is talking about the New Wasteland 2 recently released by Inxile entertainment. They managed over 2 million in Kickstarter funds. That game is fucking awesome as it will remind you of the Fallout series by interplay in the 90;s.  Briam Fargo the founder of interplay started a new company called Inxile a few years ago.

Interestingly enough, it looks like 2 inspired the "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" movie.

The game doesn't sound bad but it seems like they needed more time and budget- it's always a bad scene with the "god-level" enemies can be bumped into early in the game.

I don't completley hate Cobbett- he is the reason I played Heroine's Quest and QFG 4.5.  He tends to play a lot of great, unfamous (and often older) games, even if his reviews are accurate only about 50% of the time.

Though the stuff he calls amazing truly is incredible!  That's the one good thing about a fanatically fussy critic. :)

urmm
they had a pretty high budget where kickstart is considered

but look at again jagged alliances or maurader .. all pretty low budget wise and all great games
even ufo and xcom .. great games (minus a few new ufo pos games) all xcom beats the ufo stuff

but still wasteland 2.. new game, worth the money after the game was done with early access and beta
trust that

if you are a fan of that genre its a DONT MISS THIS GAME..

@Bad2DaBone
With all the corruption in the gaming industry that has recently come to public, I wouldn't trust any of these big corps if I were you. Take Strategy Informer for example (to name one of many), they gave Quest for Infamy 30 out of 100 while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was 92 out of 100. I know that "it could all depend on the taste of the reviewer" but that's becoming more and more doubtful in the light of latest events. It's a pretty common practice that big publishers... well, buy off... reviewers to give them high scores, but that's a whole other topic so I'll stop before I go on a rant lol. Anywho, my point is that you shouldn't trust everything that you see. If something gets a low score, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's a bad game.  ;)

Aaand ofcourse, listen to what Kaldire said. It's all good stuff.  8)

you cant trust corp or high ranking reviews on any topic anymore

CNET .. IGN  GAMESPOT all force their people to give good reviews or they fire them

no joke

its like this in movies too,  BIODOME, a funny stoner movie, which i love, got 0/100 on rotten tomatoes etc

were even cat n the hat, the new mike myers one  got 10/100   wtf?
etc

anyway the two above links I witnessed first hand,  jeff was fired over a single negative review.. just so sad he told the truth and was fired,
same for positive reviews  all bloated and mostly false (not always)

STAY AWAY from ubisoft.. period.. just again nothing good there since mid-late 90's
away from blizzard away from all the free to play friggen pos mmo's  even fps or rpg  that make you play free and pay for in game items and monthly as well on top of all that ..

quote from jeff's wiki

just so u can see

"proclaiming his dismissal was a result of external pressure from Eidos Interactive the publisher of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men which Gerstmann had previously given a Fair rating, which is relatively undesirable, along with critique.[6] This was at a time when Eidos had been putting heavy advertising money into GameSpot,[6] going as far as transforming the entire website to use a Kane & Lynch theme and background instead of the regular GameSpot layout, regardless of which game or page viewers were seeing. In accordance with California State Law and CNET Networks, GameSpot could not give details as to why Gerstmann was terminated.[7] Both GameSpot and parent company CNET stated that his dismissal was unrelated to the negative review.[8] However, a subsequent interview with Gerstmann in 2012 countered this statement, with Gerstmann claiming that management gave in to publisher pressure.[9] Following Gerstmann's termination, editors Alex Navarro, Ryan Davis, Brad Shoemaker, and Vinny Caravella left GameSpot, feeling that they could no longer work for a publication that was perceived as having caved in to advertiser pressure.[6]"
