Hello there
Looking very much forward to the upcoming QfI release, I've already warned my wife that I may need some time away from the family to cope with the impending sleepless nights.
Anyway, this takes me back to the very first glimpse I got of the infamous project, in the days of Infamous Adventures. I remember seeing a picture of a firstedition of what came to be Mr. Roehm in the woods of Spielburg, surrounded by three goblins, with his sword at the ready. The promise of that picture got me quite hooked. I've found the picture again on google, but wont post it here since I don't know the reason why it is no longer at the Infamous Adventures website. But I digress. What I got curious about was the combat system originally intended in the old screenshot. It seems somewhat Moonstone-ish, or perhaps a bit like QfG V. What did you have in mind back then, when you made that?
-
Hah, we had no idea how the combat would really play out back then. We knew we wanted multiple enemies attacking the villain (he wasn't Mr Roehm back then, just a villian) but as to how that would actually work? No idea!
And please, post the picture! I like a good laugh. They're not at IA anymore because we wanted to differentiate between the two projects (which are completely different aside from an overall theme and the name) and that IQ is a different company that IA.
-
Infamous Adventures was a company in only the loosest possible sense. ;)
-
Hi, thanks for the replies :D
Well, combat against multiple enemies is supercool. And damn hard to fix, I guess. AGDI did a very good job at the jackalmen in their remake.
Damn, how do I post a picture here?
-
Is this the screenshot you're referring to?

Hmm...
Something about that scene looks familiar... ???
-
Yeah, that was way back when we had the idea that Quest For Infamy would take place in Spielburg, ten years or so after "The Hero" had been there. That's the forest - and goblins - from QFG1.

Yep. (I knew from where you "borrowed" it. ;) )
-
Was that screenshot ever anything more than a mockup? Did you guys ever develop a prototype combat system back then?
-
Nope. I would say that's a Steve-Mockup, because I never scripted anything like that.
-
I'm sure that's in game. 1eyedparrot scripted a lot of the combat and there was an in house demo. Don't ask me where to look we are talking 10 years ago.
-
I honestly don't remember ever seeing a combat demo.
-
I have a younger and fresher mind which is why I can remember it. ;) There was an in house demo that had an opening cutscene and bit of the battle combat programmed in - I remember it being pretty buggy and hardly playable. There really wasn't much to it.
-
I think I remember someone around the time sq released saying they had the un house demo...
-
I have a demo (somewhere) of the intro and a bit of walking around. It's pretty horrible. But there was no combat in it.
-
That isn't a mockup - that's in game footage, from a combat engine Pat Thompson (One-Eyed Parrot) created. It was mouse driven, and real time. It was in very VERY early stages.

Gosh, I would just love to see that demo ;D
-
So would I!
-
Yeah, that demo has been lost to time.

There's some stuff here that I found! http://questforglory.wikia.com/wiki/Quest_for_Infamy:_So_You_Want_to_be_a_Villain%3F (http://questforglory.wikia.com/wiki/Quest_for_Infamy:_So_You_Want_to_be_a_Villain%3F)
There's a demo there!

Link still works, but it's not the same character in the picture above...

That particular demo was the one I still have which I gave to someone for their website. It's just the intro. In fact, that was my very very first experience coding. There's no combat in that.
-
Awww, a demo like that brings a nostalgic tear to the eye :)
