Infamy points
« on: July 13, 2014, 05:37:28 PM »
This kinda bugged me, but...

Why does giving Rayford a cigar give you Infamy Points?

Also, what do Infamy points mean exactly?

Does it mean how much of a bastard you are?  How feared you are?  How respected/terrifying you are?

How evil you are?

I finished the game with 175 as a "Goody-two Shoes" thief, but if I had avoided the Kraken, robbing all the houses, the cigar and slapping the moonshiner around I may have gotten.... 130?

What does the top score say and what does the lowest score say at the end?

I believe the top score is somewhere in the 300s, and I have no idea what the label is at the end.  Blackthorne would know.  I'll let him chime in on this one.

Ah okay.  I figured I'd be a "nice guy" for my first playthrough (as nice as a serial thief can be) and be a complete basturd my second time through.

I'm going to be a Brigand next and murder everyone and everything in my path!  8)

The infamy points do play a role in the game.  Certain NPCs will not tell you certain things unless you have a high enough infamy.  Basically the more you do that makes people not want to be your enemy earns you infamy.

Interesting.  Well, my Infamy score was pretty low (maybe I'll do a lowest possible playthrough at some point now that I know what to avoid) so I may not have triggered very many of those.

My Brigand'll probably be maxed out for Infamy though, heh heh. :P

So I guess it's a good thing!  You get Infamy even for nice actions (like sparing Gort, killing the Beast) so it seems to mean just much of a well-known Badass you are that people don't want to cross.

One minor complaint- I don't think the game had a screen explaining this stat very well. (or if it did, I missed it)

Infamy isn't just about being bad - it's about how clever and quick witted you are too.  You gave the Sheriff, a bastard himself - and one who makes it clear he doesn't really care for you - a cigar.  That's bad ass.  Walking up to your nemesis and handing him a cigar?  That takes stones, brother.

Really?  I was just trying to get on his good side and avoid attracting his attention too negatively.  Plus Roehm did promise him a cigar.

I'm so badass I don't even realize I'm being badass when I'm polite.  8)

One last thing.... can I enter into the forest across the tree bridge in the south forest at any point in the game?  Or do I need to be playing as a Wizard or Brigand?

You can feed the bear a ham or salami to sneak past him and enter the south woods through the living tree bridge.  Walk off the screen to the right on the tree bridge screen.

I was attempting to do a minimal infamy run as a sorcerer, but there was no way

Is it because they don't contribute to interpersonal skills?

Oh, and it's awesome that you don't get any maze hints if your infamy is too low!  I haven't found anywhere else that infamy has really contributed, but on this minimal playthrough I suspect I haven't been talking to people enough in general.

What class were you playing as?  I didn't get any as a sorcerer, but I did get points for the

I set fire to something else than that red bush, as a Sorcerer.

I can't figure it out.  Without getting points, I've managed to set fire to

Please don't give it away, but could you give me a hint as to where I should look for this elusive point-generating ignition source?

Using the chain on the tree near the waterfall gives you a free Infamy point for effort. :)
