@Kaldire, I was mostly referring to your statement about the use of that list, especially about "which ver of dosbox you use".  The list is mostly meaningless and you should always use the latest.

Quest for Infamy / Re: QFG 4.5 Discussion Part XVIII
« on: September 27, 2014, 01:02:26 PM »
I never cared for the game myself. I found it to be juvenile  and silly at best. I agree that outside of the stolen artwork it really is not very Sierra like. However, I would never pull an Elsa and try to forbid any discussion and censor anyone's access to it.

That said, perhaps I should do an installer for it since so many seem to have trouble setting up the game. I can get it to run with sound, but I would not be able to guarantee about the stability of the game given its poor coding.

Quest for Infamy / Re: Installer issue
« on: August 21, 2014, 12:24:55 PM »
I can confirm this isnt a game issue

its windows

I have win 7 64 bit, and anytime i run an ags game  either in exe for game or the setups it says
this didnt install correctly,
same went for hero6 which im helping run through the code on from sourceforge

same errors
its just windows burping at the older engines and res etc,
so just click  THIS INSTALLED CORRECTLY and you wont ever see that message again,

there is a way to turn that off in windows also but I wouldnt recommend it

That is because the config tool has "setup" in its name. It is an automatic compatibility feature for installers in Vista and higher. I would have to look up exactly what triggers it with files with "setup" in its name, but the previous version of stable NSIS had the same problem if the compiled installer had "setup" in its name.

Unfortunately, you cannot change the name of the AGS config tool to avoid it as it breaks it if it does not have the original name. I am not familiar enough with AGS to know if this can be changed from the game source. Cris Jones would be better off changing the name to something like "Config.exe" or WinConfig.exe".

The Sierra abandoned us statement does show a level of ignorance given how the sale was based on a scam. Sierra was stolen from us.

you are close, it was vivendi that took em first
vivendi owned both early blizzard and sierra
then yea it was activision blizzard

Well, it came to VU through a rather circuitous route. Around 1997 CUC was the first to buy Sierra (fraudulently). Then CUC merged with HFS to become Cendant. After Cendant went under with criminal investigations into their fraud, Havas Interactive bought Sierra. It was under Havas that "Chainsaw Monday" occurred in 1999. In a buisness alliance in 2000 Havas with Vivendi, Seagram and Canal+ formed Vivendi Universal.

It uses DOSBox. I have included a utility to make it easy to change some of the settings from default, but otherwise the game seems like a native Windows app that starts from a shortcut or from "Gold Rush!.exe".  The sound is set to use Tandy sound, so instead of PC speaker, it has the PCjr/Tandy three voice music plus noise channel for sound effects. Also worth noting, this is version 3, which has no annoying manual check copy protection. There are illegal "abandonware" copies floating around on the net that have been crack in a way that makes it impossible to progress much beyond the very beginning. For this version, the MacNeill brothers removed the copy protection all together.

Some of you may know that I have been working with Sunlight Games to bring the original Gold Rush! to modern PCs. This work is now done and the game will be released shortly. It will be available as a digital download from Sunlight's store and Steam. There will also be a boxed copy that will be shipped worldwide.

Quest for Infamy / Re: Can't run game!

No need to detect the Windows version. Just use the environment variable, i.e. "%LocalAppData%\QfI". That will work on Win2k and XP as well. After it is fixed, I can do a small binary level patch for those that do not want to have to re-download the entire game again.

Why bother with the whole board? Just try to save the few threads that really matter to you?

You will also have to manually fix all of the links between pages if you want to be able to navigate the threads. I think you are underestimating the amount of work this will take.
