Quest for Infamy / Re: QFG 4.5 Discussion Part XVIII
« on: November 04, 2014, 08:31:29 PM »
Oh... I meant CD. Yea, looking forward to NH2. Did you know there is a run cheat?

Hit Enter, you won't see anything
just type fastforward
hit Enter
Klaymen now runs. to turn it off, repeat the above process.

..............
Something weird playing this game after years... originally playing NH, in the scene where Klaymen pulls the pin to join the world halves, the guy in his tower was outside and sweating bullets, Klaymen drums his fingers on the pin, then pulls it.

Now playing the game, it just shows the guy inside his tower looking out the window, Klaymen drums his fingers, then pulls the pin.

I guess my cd version is the one I've always owned, or maybe I originally played the game from a diskette install or something else. I just can't remember.

......
Also tried Clandestiny install and it runs on w7 64 bit better than it did on w95. Now I'm wondering how to run it without original disks (2) in the drive.

It actually runs better by just using the setup95 installer. It gives you the Claymation save and load screens which I think is way cooler. You can copy all files from the disk data folder and paste them into the game directory for better play. The program will complain about no disk, just click continue a couple of times, or just leave disk in drive.

Wha....? this must be an all purpose thread!

Found out that The Neverhood runs beautifully in scummvm and win 7 64 bit. The music still cracks me up after many years since the game came out.

I have fond memories of a recorder/player that used steel wire.

An old style game is supposed to be just that. If you want more difficulty, play without armor and use a weak weapon. If you want it easier, there are ways I hesitate to mention. All in all, this game completely blew me away.

This thread will be for people to post Easter Eggs found throughout the game. Also nods to other games, movies, etc. If they involve spoilers, please tag them as such.

I'll start:

O'Burr - the dude in all black in Volksville with the bird on his shoulder... A clear nod to James O'Barr, creator of The Crow. Also the resemblance in that he wears all black and has the crow on his shoulder. Love it!
Could o'burr be the guy that Prospero asks the sorcerer "do you pursue the man in black....

heh heh most likely a red herring... in gaming it's something just thrown in there... since the update will have new stuff, maybe the plate will have its day.

I encountered something similar when experimenting to see how much I could hex edit the stats before the game went bonkers. Then to, too much stuff running in the background, fragmented HD, etc. Have you tried running the QFI.exe in administrative mode?

Since someone lost it, I gave it back for a big bottle of multi purpose fish oil.

Quest for Infamy / Forum problem?

Yesterday, pages loaded pretty quickly. Today, This forum and threads are loading VERY slowly. You all aware of any problems? I did a defrag of HD to make sure. Even did a speed test for my 12 mbps broadband and it checks out for that speed.

It's doing a little better this afternoon, but has been better.

Nope. In a previous game, first noticed the pole in edge of river. Finally figured on the tongs because remember seeing them any time during day. Already had Udo's oils, so that wasn't killing the need for the big bottle of fish oil, and not needing any extra.

I'll try starting a new game, and instead of talking to Udo, go directly to Brattle and ask about the pole, then go to smithy area and see if tongs are there.

........................
Just tried a new game, playing as well - nothing yet actually, and still no tongs. Minor issue, so back to the BOOK. l a t e r

...................
Started another game and became a brigand. Since the tongs are needed to aid in melting the teeth, they are always at the smith area day after day. Could the game somehow decide that only brigands need the tongs?
I doubt that. Funny how insignificant things get into places where you can't scratch?

........................
After starting a new tame, first exhaust all dialogues with Udo.
Go east and north to fisherman Brattle and ask about all, including fishing pole.
Back to front gate and see pole float into view. Enter Volksville and talk to everyone
till after the execution. Don't choose a character yet. Go talk to the blacksmith, then
get near horse and in sneak mode. When smith turns to furnace, touch horse to untie,
then touch again to scare it away. Smith runs after horse. Don't get tongs yet. Go
choose your character and do what is necessary. After waking up next morning, go
to the blacksmith shop and tongs will be there. Go use them to get pole. then return
tongs of course.

The fishing pole only gets you a big bottle of multipurpose fish oil that actually only lasts for a couple of uses. Another odd thing is about the moonshiner. Once you get the quest from Rayford, go get a skinned rabbit and give that to the moonshiner before talking to him. You will have options for asking about the woodsmen AND the moonshiner.

You're really working your brain and doing well. I can't even get anything from the first book phrase. Maybe I too should think a lot.

I think I accidentally coaxed info about the atm number. All I really wanted was confirmation about my save file in the library. Seems as if anyone who got a physical copy of the game would have found the atm code somewhere among the materials sent to them. Which proves the notion, one should always think illogical.
