IQ Chat / Hummel's speaking portrait question
« on: December 17, 2014, 08:19:40 PM »
OK, this one likely goes out to our dear Miss Corrigan:

Been wondering about this for quite some time -- did the American actor Joe Don Baker provide the inspiration for Hummel's speaking portrait?  It's whom I immediately thought of when playing QFI.

Here's a picture:

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Quest For 3D project
« on: October 25, 2014, 09:15:03 AM »
There's been an update to the Quest For 3D project - a recreation of Spielburg in 3D.

Zara's Magic Shop now has color, and there is a test picture of the Bar...  The Dragon's Breath cask looks terrific!

For those who haven't seen it, here is a test video "walk-through" from late 2012 -- it's truly amazing:

I know there's a bug to get infinite money from the Thieves' Den,

...But I just discovered a bug to get infinite (or at least a lot of) Infamy Points:

I'm playing as a Brigand and went to the Docks to try to pick the pocket of Calik, the HQ/QFG adventurer, at the Salty Dog.  While I didn't do it in any of my three playthroughs, I did read about it on the forums as a way to get +10 Infamy Points.

My thievery as a Brigand is only 5 (quite low), so it took A LOT of clicks (and awkward replies of why I was pawing at Calik in my terrible attempts at pickpocketing him) to get it to trigger.  The Narrator says Roehm gets 731 blys from the successful pickpocketing and 10 Infamy Points.

I wondered if there was anything else to pickpocket -- being a fellow adventurer, I KNOW they can hold just as much stuff in their Pockets of Inifinity as Mr. Roehm can in his!  By clicking on Calik many, MANY more times, I got another notice: 731 blys / 10 Infamy Points!  I kept doing this until I gained about 50 or 60 Infamy Points total, and went to check my Blythos Pouch.  However, the number of blys didn't seem to change between the last two successful pocket pickings...   :'(

So, to ensure I was getting the initial 731 blys: I restored the game right before I started pickpocketing, noted the number of blys in my Pouch, and got to groping...  When the first successful notice appeared, I checked my blys: no change.  BUT the Infamy Points indexed by 10.   :D

While I did continue a few more times to get several 10 point increases to my Infamy rating, my blythos did not index by +731 -- ever.  I still had the same amount I started with... just with more Infamy Points than I should have been able to get!

I assume a higher Thievery skill -- like a highly successful Rogue who has broken into many houses and the bank -- will make it easier to pick Calik's pockets, with many fewer clicks required.  Once I finish up my Brigand bug review, go into the Virtual Bar, kick BT's bottom and get the screenshot to secure my inclusion on the future Plaque, I will test this theory to see if it bears out.

So... until version 1.1 comes out and this bug gets fixed: Get clicking, you scallywags!  I want to see screenshots of Infamy Points well into the thousands!  (And NO Photoshopping!)

Quest for Infamy / Couldn't get Fireflies at Farm Sign as Brigand at Night
« on: September 10, 2014, 12:21:26 PM »
Just wanted to report this -- it may be nothing, but it popped in my head as I'm going through the QFI-related posts from the last 2 months:

As a Brigand, I couldn't get the Fireflies to go into the Glowing Fungus-filled Jar at the Farm Sign at Night.  They are there, but every time I clicked the Fungus-Jar on them, nothing.  I could only get them from the Large Stone screen from the Grasslands.

I eventually thought maybe it was a puzzle; Hobbs tells you about both places (farm and grasslands), but only ONE of them works! (The grasslands -- devious!)

So, as I played the Sorcerer and Rogue, I didn't try even bother trying the Farm Sign screen...

When I get a chance, I'll return to my saved games for all three classes and try to get the Fireflies from the Farm Sign for each class.

Quest for Infamy / Viewing Achievements In-Game?
« on: September 04, 2014, 05:29:01 PM »
Is there a way to view the QFI achievements in-game?

At the end of AGDI's KQ3:Redux, there is a list of achievements where you can see what you achieved and what you missed...

Is playing the game via Steam the only way for QFI?  Or am I missing something?

Thanks, all!

Quest for Infamy / Maps for Quest For Infamy - Map Guide Guides
« on: September 03, 2014, 01:18:01 PM »
The fun of any good graphic adventure game is making maps!...

(Yeah, I know I'm weird — I've been making them on computers since my DOS / GEM 3.13 / QFG1:VGA days...)

...And Quest For Infamy is no different.  Here are some maps to help YOU help Mr. Roehm on his many quests around the Valley of Krasna.  They are presented as both PNG image files and higher-quality PDF files.

Please note that there are some MINOR SPOILERS here, such as where certain hideouts can be found as well as certain exits, entrances and quest screens...

And since the Valley of Krasna is known for its many rivers and streams, I also added a bit of color to my maps for the first time — light blue — to denote the Great River Silmahwyn and the other waterways found around the valley.

For the Dwarven mines, many of the screens look alike, so I denoted certain background features (shovels, barrels, scaffolding, etc.) as guides to help differentiate between the rooms.

Also, the good folks at Infamous Quests may be adding new content to the game for the next update (v1.1?).  When that occurs, theses maps may be slightly out-of-date.  Therefore, I have labelled these maps as version 1.0 (v1.0) to help distinguish between this initial release and any future versions (for which I will also try to provide updated versions).

If I missed something, something is misspelled, or a link below doesn't work, let me know.  Enjoy, and stay infamous!

UPDATE: 01/23/2022 - I updated the maps on the forum back on October 10, 2021:

• Updated maps to QFI game version 1.1.2
• Changed picture hosting website from Photobucket to Flickr
• Updated PDF links due to a Google Drive security update.  The update forced a "request for download" instead of direct access to the files

However, once the forum partially reset on November 1, 2021, those changes were lost.  Now that the forums are back after a month-long absence, I am updating them again.

Since I don't tweet, I have to make the observation from BT's recent tweet here instead...

Quest for Infamy / Medieval Pixel font created for Quest For Infamy

*Note that you must be a registered FontStruct user to download the font.

After a while — if there's any interest — I'll probably provide a direct, non-FontStruct link for the TTF...   ;)

Saw this one a while back, but now it's on Steam's Early Access.  The team making this includes some of the original TIM developers, including Jeff Tunnell himself:

Quest for Infamy / Just Press Start podcast featuring Shawn & Steve
« on: June 23, 2014, 08:57:32 AM »
For those who haven't taken the time, I highly recommend giving the recent Just Press Start interview with Shawn and Steve a listen (assuming, that is, you're not in one of the 'restricted' countries):

http://justpressstart.net/infamous-quests-steven-alexander-and-shawn-mills-talk-quest-for-infamy/

While written write-ups of interviews are nice, this is 55 minutes of behind-the-scenes "what it takes" (both theory and design) to make a quality game like QFI.

Kudos to interviewer Jeff Ortloff for asking the in-depth questions from a gamer's perspective.

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Recommendation for File Sharing?
« on: April 06, 2014, 11:49:44 AM »
Hi, all.

I have the occasional need to upload rather large files or ZIPs to friends and family.  In the distant past, I've used RapidShare and 4Shared.  However, these lately have become too cumbersome and down-right user un-friendly.

Can anyone recommend a relatively hassle-free "free" upload/download website?

Thanks!
