Hello friends! Here is an exclusive preview of the Big Box - this is a mockup of the layout. The final version may change some, but here is your first look at the box and the artwork by Jenny Pattison!

Oh, that is gorgeous! I'm so in lust! Er.. love!
-
Looks great there! Nice work by Jenny, that's for sure.
-
Me likey! ;D
-
Haha, man, that cover is so over-the-top... fantastic! She's really outdone herself. It's full-on Frazetta mode!! :)
-
Haha, yeah - that was what I asked for. I said "Let's go Frazetta/Vallejo on this one!"

Also, here is the art only proof.

Oh my GOD it's alive !!!
...........have..to........turn...................away................(petrified).
Seriously,I thing my jaw just dropped !
-
Just wait until you find out what you have to do to play as one of the other two characters pictured there...
Oh, wait, I'm nine days too late to reveal that.
-
Thanks guys! Glad you all like it so far, we wanted something suitably retro for the box, and I think we managed it in the end :) I only just realised that I didn't have access to this part of the forum, woops, so just getting caught up on what I've missed!
-
wasn't there a series of books about the one on the right?

I just realized today that I didn't have access to these boards either, haha. Wow, the cover looks amazing, very sexy too! All the dudes on here are drooling... ;) I've said it before but I'll say it again...you are extremely talented Jenny!
-
Okay! I've moved this here for more to view! Remember - this isn't the final box design, but a mock-up. The final version will vary some.

Woah, that looks amazing, and so old-school! I wish I had one of these :P Great work, Jen!

:o Cool, didn't know that. You know, stuff like that should be used in MasterCard ads. "Priceless" ;)

PS Obviously I've meant the second part of the message. I know I'm on the team, LOL xD

Did someone just say "FREE SWAG FOR THE TEAM MEMBERS!!!1"? 'Cause that's what I heard, and I think that's a great idea! ;D
Love where you went with this, the whole Vallejo/Frazetta angle works delightfully - retro in the most awesomely cheesy way imaginable. :) Great job on the execution too, Jen! :)
-
Thanks Slash and Ivan! Really glad you guys dig it too, gonna be so cool to have our own game up on a shelf, huh? :)

Yeah, I think you've actually managed to keep the style of retro box covers:

Perfect! ;)

All in a day's work, man ;)
-
It only took you a day?
-
Three days start to finish, actually ;)
-
Love the art, but perhaps a dark blue or dark green border instead of red?
I was never a fan of the system requirements sticker in front of boxes, that's actually a trend I'm glad has gone away. Think boxes look much better without them.
-
Yeah, the sticker I just made up for nostalgia's sake. I don't know what the final border's color will be - I've tried a couple of different iterations. We'll see what we end up with before it goes to print.
Bt
-
Green was my suggestion too, Gonchi, that part isn't finalised yet, as Bt says. That's just the colour it was before my artwork was completed and added in, and you're right that a blue or green would complement better now.

After doing a video review of some old computer game catalogs, Clint over at Lazy Game Reviews has a video review of System Requirement Stickers:

This has given me an idea. I will have the boxes printed up without the requirements sticker on it - and perhaps have a run of requirement stickers printed up, so that you can put it on there if you like!

Cool. 8)

Oh, man, I hope the system requirements sticker doesn't go away! I agree that they weren't the most awesome feature of gameboxes of yore, but their inclusion on a retro Big Box feels almost mandatory! I, at least, cast my vote for keeping them :)
The only flaw I see is that the sticker font isn't quite awful enough ;-)

The ubiquitously-hated and universally-reviled Comics Sans for the win! (Or loss, actually...)
-
Goatmeal, get me an awful font!
(BTW, I DID get your email - I have meant to write you back, but alas, I relegated it to later and forgot about it until now! Safe to say, yes, I freaking love what you sent me.)

And for those who are not so interested in the Box Art, an alternate proposal:

I can also post a link to the Hi-Res version, if need be.
Just give me the word and we can begin production on this right away, BT !

Comic Sans. I would have to be Comic Sans. >:(
It's like the Cotton-Eyed Joe of fonts. It's not even properly kerned, for f***'s sake!!!
I seem to remember them always looking something more like a dot-matrix font with a tight pattern, like JD LCD Rounded (http://www.fontspace.com/jecko-development/jd-lcd-rounded):
or, even better, Transaction (http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/stellasfonts/transaction/regular/):
I'm geeking out on fonts, now, aren't I? Gosh, I guess you all know how boring I am (if it wasn't apparent before)...

Guess that makes us a club of (at least) fontaholics 2 here at QFI... :)
(Love me some dot-matrix fonts!)

Goatmeal IS fonts, man.

Hopefully you'll get to see my minor contributions to the game when it comes out... :D

I wish I could crawl into Jen's head and live there... Such great art.
-
The more art I push out of it, the emptier it gets so there's room for one more in here, Justin!
