Banter and Chit-Chat! / Re: Quest for Glory IV 3D (ZDoom Hexen mod)
« on: April 10, 2017, 08:33:33 AM »

HOLY S***! I nearly had a heart attack when my mod appeared in Rock Paper Shotgun back in Jan.. but now PC Gamer!!! Wow!

Thank you so much for letting me know! I've gotta try and get my hands on a copy! I normally get the UK PC gamer here in Aus but I do see the American one's occasionally in stores.

Is this the right one?

Congratulations.

I will check my issue when I get home today.

EDIT:

Yes, that is the correct issue.

Still catching up on some recent PC Gamer magazines.  Blake00's QFGIV-3D was mentioned in the recent March 2017 / #289 issue (U.S. version).

Located on page 90 under their "Top 10 Downloads" section, it's #1:

Just catching up on some PC Gamer magazines, and discovered that IQ was mentioned in the recent Holiday 2016 / #286 issue (U.S. version).

Located on page 91 under their "Top 10 Downloads" section, it's #5:

Adding to Klytos's explanation, the IQ people are working hard polishing up QFI v2.0, putting the finishing touches on Roehm to Ruin, and working diligently on Fortress of Fire!

Plus, we're either approaching or already in the holiday season, depending on what your country celebrates!

I'm sure activity will pick up (at least a little) once RtR is released...

Just re-installed SQ2 version 1.1.

ESC-aped through the opening credits and selected "Skip It" when asked about the Intro.

If the game started as normal, I would restart the game and repeat the above.

After 10–15 times, I got the Easter Egg.

Did it a second time to get these screen shots...

OK, I've seen the pictures for a while now -- including the IQ Twitter feed today -- but I haven't been able to find out how to access the SQ1 Arcada corridors/backgrounds Easter Egg from SQ2 VGA...

So, how does one do that?

As the guy who single-handedly delayed Hero-U...

...I'd hate for the same to happen to IQ if they tried taking a second bite of the old KS apple.   :-[

Ah, who am I kidding?  I'd sell my own children to help IQ.

Check back with me in about 9 months; I may have some inventory by then...

That EF Digital Sans is spot on! I did some further searching and found a Bold and Bold Italic variation which looks much closer to the weight of the box lettering. The only small problem is that the characters "D," "P," and "0" have their holes filled in with black while the italics version doesn't. A strange oddity. Perhaps it's a bug in the font? I don't know how fonts work at all.

http://fontsov.com/font/digitalsansefbold47553.html

Had a look at that font.  As I thought, the element directions are causing the problem for 0, D & P.

In layman's terms ('cause I'm a layman/amateur typographer myself):

Most, if not all, digital typefaces/font files like True Type, Open Type, Post Script, etc., are simply collections of closed lines that run in one of two directions: clockwise or counterclockwise.  The difference in direction between two boundaries will determine how the resulting space is "filled":

• The background space is "white/empty"
• Counterclockwise lines start "black" spaces
• Clockwise lines start "white/empty" spaces
• When the lines are in opposite directions, a "black" or "white/empty" results (outer-to-inner direction)
• When the lines are in the same direction, the resulting "color" remains the same (the grey line shows the results of the direction problem in the example)

And that is what happened to this font.  I've fixed it and tested it in MS Word -- the regular font linked above has the problem; the fixed version does not.

PM me your address and I'll send you the fix, MI.

Thanks for the kind words, MI!

========================================

I uploaded a de-skewed/straightened perspective version of the Paul Quest logo font to

https://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/

but that returned no similar suggestions.

========================================

Next, I tried

http://www.identifont.com/index.html

and selected "Limited Set of Letters" (PAUL QUEST) under "Fonts by Appearance."  After picking the correct attributes, the 23rd suggestion looks like the right one:

EF DIGITAL SANS

The curved top of the A and the tail of the Q are quite distinctive...

Quest for Infamy / Re: Kickstarter Hits and Misses.

Guys -- I have a confession to make:

It's my fault Hero-U isn't out yet.

I only supported their first Kickstarter, but the Coles didn't get me again for round two.

I realize only now that if I had bothered to support the second KS as well, that MY contribution would have been the tiny pebble that turned into the avalanche of game completion that we are all waiting for...

My deepest and most humble apologies for the resulting delay.

you sure?

maybe they are just breathing really hard...
lol

Narrator: "Larry, perhaps you should keep little quips like these to yourself and just get on with the game, hmmm?"

Quest for Infamy / Old font / new picture
« on: August 23, 2016, 10:49:24 PM »
Here's a "Throwback Tuesday" picture...

I've finally gotten around to recreating the typeface used for the opening credits of Hero's Quest / Quest For Glory EGA.  Instead of being generated by in-game fonts, the words and names were actually static pictures.

I'm quite pleased with the results -- only Q & Z were missing from the set of samples -- and what better way to showcase the font than with a sample pic featuring our dear old Mr. Roehm?   :D
