Hero 6
« on: December 15, 2013, 11:43:10 PM »
Can't seem to find my old thread about Hero 6 here.. maybe it was over at Infamous Adventures (wish you guys had made it read only instead of closing completely btw, my website links to important fan game convos in there lol).

Oh well I'll start a new one here as I thought it might interest some of the old fans to know that another fellow has announced over at QFMG that they've got the Hero 6 source files and are working on the project again. He posted a video showing some of the fixes he's put in so far and has requested help if possible. Yes its a slim hope I know but its always nice to hear someone is working on the game still.

Ahh found a copy of my old post about Hero 6 and the videos I made in case there's any old Hero 6 fans here who didn't frequent the old IA forums.

--------------------------
Hey guys,

It’s taken a few weeks and some help from Deltamatrix over at QFMG but I've finally finished my Hero 6 videos showing quick playthroughs of the big 2006 MAD engine demo and the smaller but more polished 2009 AGS demo. If any of you out there have been following the project over the last decade wanted to see how much was done and see all the brilliant work that went into the game over the years (from so many including some of our awesome AGDers here) now you can! It is my hope that by showing the world this game on youtube it will never be forgotten and maybe more fans will be inspired to help bring the project back from the dead or create great QFG style projects of their own.

I've posted new screenshots, download links and embedded the videos in the Hero 6 page at my website but I’ll post the vids here too to make it easier. :)

2006 MAD Engine Alpha Demo (in 2 Parts)
This demo boasts a very large game world to explore with a town and 2 villages containing many npcs to talk to (with a QFG4 full screen protrait style). There are many monsters to fight and even some jobs to do for the npcs.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVYoai0g6Ys" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVYoai0g6Ys</a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWCW9QyhQ-s" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWCW9QyhQ-s</a>

2009 AGS Engine Alpha Demo (in 3 Parts)
This demo reflects the downsizing of the project with a smaller game world however it is much more polished and contains story and multiple quests to complete therefore making it much longer to play! In a way it almost feels like a sequel to the 2006 demo as places you could visit before are now dead, overgrown and haunted. The battles are better as well with new enemies and gang fights.

Oh don't worry nothing has been deleted it's still all there. Making it read only was a plan but we just never got around to doing it. Later on I'll check it out and pull the links from the original thread for you.

Here's the QFG related game projects you posted. Anything else you want?

Hey everyone! I posted here and at AGD a few months back as I was constructing a detailed Quest for Glory 4 ½ walkthrough, map & fan page and thanks to both communities help I successfully finished it all! :)

Am back again as I’m guessing both communities house most of what’s left of the AGS/QFG fan game community which can help me once again with my next project. I’ve been working on a Quest for Glory section on my website with information, pictures, videos, walkthroughs, maps, and downloads for each of the games as I play through them.

I’ve also been working on a large QFG related fan games section devoted to all the successful (hence the QFG 4 ½ page I made) and particularly the unsuccessful projects. I’ve noticed over the years as many of them have died and their websites have gone down resulting in all their great work disappearing never to be seen again by the fan community to inspire new projects. Despite the many closures I’ve been hunting down old previews, old site hostings before they moved, and even web-archive on the dead ones to find any pictures and information that I can save & create a tribute to each fallen game on my page.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QFG related game projects list (Updated 23/3/2013) :
- Hero-U
- Quest for Glory 2 Remake
- Hero6
- Quest for Glory 4 ½
- Quest for Infamy
- Mage's Initiation
- Heroine's Quest: The Herald Of Ragnarok
- Hero of Infamous Kingdoms
- Quest for Yrolg
- Quest for Glory I Redux
- Quest for Glory ZZT
- Quest for 3D
- Grim Quest
- Quest for Glory 2.5D
- Peril Quest
- Project Katrina
- Destiny The Lost Soul
- Hero of Odarin I: Nightfall (Previously Adventurer's Quest I: Flight of the Vampire)
- Struggle For Life & Honour
- Quest for Glory 3D (Previously Re-Quest For Glory)
- The Unknown Hero
- Glorious Quest
- Conquests of a Hero (Also known as A Hero's Tale & Quest for Heroism)
- Quest for Orgy Series
- Luke 3D
- The Last Call of Avoozl
- Quest For Glory: A Hero's Death
- Project Midgard
- The Glory Project

For more details on these games you can now visit my finished Quest for Glory Page. If you have demos, videos, and pictures that I don’t have for projects in my list please contact me. Also please let me know if there are there any other QFG related projects out there that I haven’t listed here.

Cheers Broomie! Nah my QFG Fan Games thread I already moved here so all good. :) Would be cool if you made the forum read only one day as the IA forums is like an old library book and is a massive resource of useful information and materials.

I may be forgetting somewhere but it looks like my site links to your old forums for these things:

My Quest for Infamy Page links to Klytos's thread and massive post about the history of the OLD QFI with pictures and link to the demo for curious fans.
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/forum/index.php?topic=3719.0

My Hero6 page has 2 links to Deltamatrix's (I think it was him) End of Hero6 thread where someone (whats his name from AGDI team I think) posted a big post about the history of the project and revealed there was actually a 2nd secret Hero6 project.
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/forum/index.php?topic=4844.0
Then Blackthorne (I think) posted the 2009 demo for everyone to check out which I linked to his post for fans to try out the demo.

All good there thanks man. I was using BT's 2009 demo to make my videos however I hit some bad bugs so Deltamatrix was kind enough to give me the final source code from 2011 which I compiled and was able to finish my videos with, I still have the file. Plus Delta went on to post it publicly at Big Blue Cup AGS forums anyway so people have been getting it from there I think.

Here's the link to the demo I got in March of this year.  Explore around.  It's a nice game.

The link still works!

Ahh there it is, cheers BT! I didn't direct link to your file as I felt that would have been a bit disrespectful so I linked to your forum post with the file instead so people would get the file and check out your site. I didn't really think about the possibility of your forum going down, so I lost the link to the file haha.

I still haven't taken up your offer earlier this year to host some of those rare QFG fan game demos lost on the net due to their hosts going down. I really gotta get off my butt and go find them on my hdd to send to you before I get hit by bus or something lol!

I had no idea how realized Hero 6 ever became. Frequenting AGDI in wait for QFG2 the impression I got was that Hero 6 was disaster after disaster and never really had a chance. Seeing this much material for it though is just wow.

Yes, we're certainly swimming in content.  Much of what we're doing now is shining up what's already implemented and logging user interface bugs, repairing, and creating missing features.  However, the amount of effort that has already been applied to this project is significant.  It's so close to a functional (not complete, but functional) game that I couldn't help but continue its development.

Plus, there's always the risk that the Internet-Host-Monster will eat whatever progress has been made - a true loss.  If anything, I'm just glad to have everything hosted somewhere I can control so the project can continue.

We keep a current version of our source code and an executable version of the game available for all.  Anyone is welcome to contribute - we'd appreciate the help!

Feel free to check out our progress at: http://Hero6.org

Is there any chance anyone has the the old Hero6 Forest Demo from 2002 lying around? We would like to acquire it.

EDIT: Never Mind. Found it!

Mmmmm, yes, I remember it being very difficult to track down 5-6 years ago, the passing years eating away internet content hasn't improved my odds very much. Hoping for a miracle.

Thanks for checking anyway though.

EDIT2:

If anyone is interested, I believe I've found all the demos that were ever made of Hero6. They are available on the Hero6 Sourceforge page, as well as the current prototype. The following demos are available:
  • 2001 Greenleaf Demo
  • 2002 Forest Demo
  • 2006 MAD Demo Alpha 14
  • 2009 AGS Demo
So if you feel nostalgic and want to look at old stuff, help yourselves.

I made this post in the AGS forums and thought I should post it here as well.

We've been spending the entire year doing resource gathering from previous project iterations, organizing and planning a development structure that would work well with open-source development, fixing bugs and doing a major cleanup in the source code.

We feel as if we're ready to start doing major work in moving the game forward now. At first we need to deal with the great behemoth that specifically for this game has always been a major hurdle, the plot. Currently the expertise field of the development team has a 100% shift towards programming, and thus we urge anyone who would be interested in writing to take a look. More info here.
