Quest for Infamy / Re: Upcoming Kickstarter for Art & Hint Book
« on: September 11, 2013, 01:51:41 PM »
I only put March 2014 as a release date to give a safe amount of time for the release. It could be done much sooner than that, but at latest, I estimated that.  I wanted to err on the side of caution.  QFI wouldn't be coming out that late.  If that's confusing, I can change the date.

Bt

Nah, BT.  I realize that it was in all likelihood a placeholder date, and was only kidding...

I was looking to generate  a groundswell of opposition: "Don't wait until the hint/art book is released ! We want QFI NOW !"

...you know, stir the pot & toss a grenade, then run off and watch with glee from the bushes...

As I said before, whatever you good peoples come up with is fine by me.

********************

My only request: since the Estimated Delivery date for the hint/art book looks to be Mar 2014, could you PLEASE PLEASE postpone the release of the completed game at least until then?

If QFI is released months beforehand, I really don't want to be forced into looking up TXT walkthroughs or resort to watching someone's YouTube "Let's Play: QFI" for hints and help...   :(

I'm fairly certain everyone here will agree with me on this.

So, if anyone would like to take a preview gander at this, send me a PM.  I'd like to get some input from people, and I trust our fans the most.

Bt

HA!  Wrong answer, McFly !

Can't. Be. Unseen. ><

As you might expect, there's a funny story behind that pic.  ;)

There's no way it'll ever be funny enough...   :P

Pac Man.

Why is he eating everyone's pellets?  Why are ghosts chasing him?  Were they other Pac-Men he killed in life?  And then with his magical powers, he'll eat them?  And he's not satisfied until he's eaten every last thing in the maze?

Bastard.

Not to mention what happens when you touch him...  (NSFW)

I'm a little disappointed that there is no mention of using the old yellow "Yes & No" pens to reveal hints -- that it's not even being considered.  I thought you guys wanted to go "old school" with these projects?

What could be better than an elegant, hard cover edition completely marked-up with yellow ink stained and bleeding through the one-time-use hint pages?

The least you could do is make a "Reveal-O-Matic Electronic Hint Revealer" (à la SQ4) for revealing hints for the digital edition -- that way, the hint could be hidden once you moved off that page -- no more planned obsolescence!

Well, no matter; I'm fully on board with whatever you people at IQ choose...

I somehow convinced the wife to let me build a MAME cabinet in my house!  A couple thousand dollars later, it will be the cause of any delays in QFI production.  So, I love it, but the rest of you probably don't!   ;D

My kids love it too!

That's just awesome -- I'd love to be able to play the old games on original controllers...

What version of MAME are you running?  I just discovered MAME in 2000 right before there was a big crackdown on ROMs.  Since then, MAME has changed the way it numbers its version, so I'm not sure what ROMs work with which MAME version(s)...

Never watched the show, but I like the theory that Breaking Bad is the prequel to Malcolm In The Middle, where Walt becomes "Hal" in Wit Sec protection...

And a nice one from Return Of The Jedi:

...although there's so much black in the design scheme of the Death Stars, it's hard to see what's not painted.

BT, from your link above:

http://nzpetesmatteshot.blogspot.com/search/label/Harrison%20Ellenshaw

Harrison Ellenshaw is the MAN when it comes to matte painting, especially from sci-fi movies -- the Star Wars trilogy, The Black Hole, TRON...

Speaking of which, here's one of my favorite matte paintings, if only for its simplicity and prescience/foresight of the coming domination of computers in the workplace:

The ENCOM cube farm from the beginning of the film, Harrison's one and only matte painting for TRON.   I couldn't find a nice shot of it on the Net, so here's a scan from my extremely well-worn copy of The Art Of TRON by Michael Bonifer (1982).

Though only the right half was used on the film, I was happy to see that the posted link above does have a pic of Harrison looking through the matte painting...

Seriously: My dad's nickname is Oatmeal, and my first name starts with a G, so Goatmeal was born...

I'd love to know why your dad's nickname is "Oatmeal".

Nothing special -- it's merely a bastardization of our last name...   :D

And no, I'm not telling...   :P

And yes, DS9 _was_ the best ST series...   ;)

Every since I was a wee lad, I wanted to grow up to be a tin can...

Get it?  Goat Meal?  Like those cartoons from the 1930s and 1940s, where goats were always chewing on tin cans?...  (Though goats eating tin cans is a myth.)

Seriously: My dad's nickname is Oatmeal, and my first name starts with a G, so Goatmeal was born...
