IQ Chat / Re: Kings Quest For Steve video upload?

The Kingdom of Sorrow demo is literally the introduction to the game. It's all about King Graham and his family so there's literally nothing in it we could reuse. The game itself is completely different to OOTT but some of the artwork was reused, probably about 50%.

Star Citizen will never see the light of day.

I wouldn't say Reloaded was a success considering it was released to fairly non-plussed reviews, none of the people who worked on it got more than a single cheque for royalties, and the whole company disappeared afterwards with another group obviously claiming the rights to make a new one. I think the Gabriel Knight remake and Moebius were quite good and I anticipate SV being great too, whenever that gets released.

Unlike Colonel's Bequest, missing things doesn't kill the story, it just directs it in different ways. I think it would be safe to say there's no way to do everything 100% in a single play.

Well, I love it. I think the problem going in is some people (this isn't directed at you guys here, just stuff I've read) think it's going to be QFG and when it's not they get the hump and rage quit. I think it's a good evolution for story driven games and it could easily be the best game the Coles have produced so far (with the exclusion of HQ1 which is the greatest game ever made).

The highlight for me is the writing (as usual) and Josh Mandel did such a great job on a lot of those click messages. The whole game feels like an onion to me, peeling it away a bit at a time and discovering new things. I like the college idea too, it's a great framework for a story and allows a lot of different pieces to come together. I've spent a lot of hours in this game so far.

Yeah, he patrols along the top (northern most) screens of the south woods.

I do agree Voyager had some great episodes, but the overwhelming majority are somewhere between "meh" and "bleh". For every "Year of Hell", there's a "Fair Haven" or "Threshold" or "Spirit Folk". Or shoot me in the head if I ever have to watch "Virtuoso" again. Whoever came up with that one needs punched in the face. Or how many times did they milk the stuck in the holodeck story?

Voyager is unwatchable now, IMHO. The Borg stuff is cool, but they focus way too much on Seven and Janeway to the exclusion of the interesting characters.

IA doesn't exist anymore, it's just a redirect to a download page.

I don't blame Facebook or Twitter, it's just that people have moved to them so I really just followed the audience. Unfortunately, only about six people bother posting at these forums. Six awesome people.

I've backed all three of these. I don't know if Star Citizen will be released, or if it is I very much doubt they'll get everything into it they promised. I don't have any doubts that the SpaceVenture and Hero-U will be finished and released in the near future. I think they'll both be great games. It's a shame they've taken so long, but each have had their own difficulties. I think those difficulties are exactly the same as if they were making a game with a developer like Sierra, but in these cases because of Kickstarter, it's all public.

I have thoughts about Kickstarter as a platform! I don't know if I want to get into them too deeply here, but I'll just say that I think it's a great way to raise money to finance a game if you can't go through traditional avenues. I also don't think I'll ever do one again (never say never though!)

Wouldn't Space Quest VII be a pun on Generations? Like "Degenerations"??

20-40 minutes is a very big exaggeration. It's more like a few hours. Like all adventure games, you could smash it out quite quickly if you knew exactly what to do and the optimum path. I can knock over the early KQ games (3 excepted because of timers) in a pretty short amount of time. But there's certainly more than 20 minutes worth of content in R2R.

Goatmeal - I hate to say it, but there's no classing in R2R. It's a prequel, he can't class up here then forget it in 6 weeks time when he gets to Volksville! What we've done is a number of ways to deal with most situations which are our three classes orientated. As an example, early on in the game there's a thief you have to deal with, and there's a brigand approach, a thief approach, a coward approach, and a "don't give a stuff" approach. There's a number of those type of situations. It's a more melded approach to the classes.

Oh yeah! I see that with Facebook now. On a PC browser (that's all I tried) I could see the top posts then a popup appeared demanding login etc. I'm sure I used to be able to look at public pages without logging in.

It's not just here mate, a lot of forums are dead now. Social media has crushed them.
Not accessible to anyone: while I use Facebook "passively" (= read entries), I don't have an account. On purpose: I just hate when it is perceived as almost obligatory, as if only a sociopath (yes, I have seen this kind of "reasoning") could have no account.

After we release Roehm to Ruin, I can turn my focus back to Order of the Thorne: Fortress of Fire and finish that game up.  Still got a lot of story left to tell.
Does it mean that this one is already partially done as well? Because actually, I found the first game really nice. At first I had the impression that it's going to be boring, particularly in terms of graphics - I really think you should add more diverse screenshots on the game's page. But in fact it was much better than I had expected at first, so I guess I will buy "Fortress of Fire" when it's released.

It's not a personal choice or business decision to move to social media, it's just that's where the majority of our audience is now, so we had to move as well. Personally I much prefer forums such as these, but I'm unfortunately in the minority.

Oh, we had some spam problems that I resolved by deleting everyone who hadn't logged in for [can't remember how long]. You must've been caught up in that. It's not like we missed you, I see your sexy ass on Facebook all the time.

It will work but you may find some weirdness - basically if we've renumbered a line or changed a line it might play the wrong file or even not play anything.
