IQ Chat / Re: Quest for Glory fan projects
« on: January 02, 2017, 04:42:26 AM »
Happy new year guys! :) It's been a while but I've been working on my site and have made the following additions to the QFG related games list.

New QFG related projects added:
Quest For Glory IV 3D – Massive new section! My total conversion mod for ZDoom Hexen taking you on a 3D action packed adventure in Mordavia.
QFG6: Hero’s Legend – Full tribute page created! Creator of QFG2.5D is working on a 3D QFG sequel based in Silmaria & Tarna.
Quest for Glory I Extended Edition – Full tribute page created! QFG1 remake with many new areas (eg open mountain pass like in QFG4.5).

Changes made to existing QFG content:
General – Contents menu added.
General – All back buttons changed to utilise HTML bookmarks. Now users don’t have to re-scroll down the entire page constantly! :)
General – Fixed some missing slashes in code.
Heroism: The Art of DeFence – New HD screenshots and GREATLY enhanced demo now available.
Quest for 3D – New awesome screenshots of his amazing realistic recreation of Spielburg.
Destiny: The Lost Soul – FINALLY the long lost demo has been found & made available by the Hero6 team!
Quest for Infamy (classic) – Finally found the original Brigand theme song I used to use (forgot it was also hero selection track), now the original 2010 tribute page is finally truly restored.

As always, let me know if something is missing. :)

@DrSlash that looks awesome! Unlike me you actually have real legitimate 3D artist talent haha

@Chadly thanks man, and you can play QFG4 3D right now if you want. Playable demo is available. :) ST Doom demo should be out next weekend.

Oh and the other project I worked on isn't related to QFG or Sierra gaming but if there's any trekkies here they may enjoy it. I've been working on a Star Trek - The Next Generation Doom level where you fight against the Borg and Species 8472 which I'll be releasing in a few days too. Demo video here:

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Quest for Glory IV 3D (ZDoom Hexen mod)
« on: November 26, 2016, 03:38:48 AM »
Hi guys :)

I figured it was finally time to drop by and publicly announce my Quest for Glory IV 3D project. After years of tributing other peoples awesome QFG fan games at Blake's Sanctum I decided to have a go at making my own QFG fan game.

QFG4 3D is a total conversion single player 19 map mod for the classic game Hexen with the ZDoom enhancement. The mod contains new levels, textures, decoration, weapons, monsters, NPCs, cutscenes, music & sounds taking players on an old-school linear 3D action adventure set in the world and story of the great classic Sierra game Quest for Glory IV - Shadows of Darkness.

Before anyone else says it I'd like to say that QFG4 doesn't need to be in 3D, nor is my project an attempt to convert every single part of the game to 3D (if you want to do everything in QFG4 then go play QFG4 haha). I created QFG4 3D just for fun and to see if I could actually do it lol. Plus it was rather fun to create new areas/views not seen in the original game (eg I show more of the town & give you 360 degree views of each original game location). So if others happen to enjoy this project too then that's a bonus, but if you're not a fan of retro gaming & graphics then this probably isn't going to be of much interest to you.

I used the old Hexen/Doom engine as I lack the graphic & programming talents to use a modern game engine, plus I wanted it to retain the look at feel of the era when QFG4 came out. However the ZDoom/GZDoom extension updates the old engine quite a bit to use true 3D, OpenGL effects & now in 2016 it even supports VR! So if you ever wanted to walk around Mordavia as if you were there then this is your chance (at least until someone else does a much better job haha).

Hope you guys enjoy this first demo below. Be warned that it will likely be a long time before there's another demo, I've spent nearly 2 years on this & another project and have sacrificed a lot. I'm burnt out & want to do other things, including getting back to PLAYING games instead of making them lol!

For more information, more screenshots, animations+descriptions of all weapons & monsters you'll face, and of course the download links for the demo and required files check out my QFG4 3D website here:

Yeah I'm not sure why that weird old issue has come back to life lol. Nor am I sure how RPG vs adventure has anything to with inclusion and exclusion. It could a bloody flight sim for all I care, if you're flying over Speilburg & people are shooting arrows up at you then congrats you've made my list lol.

I put games of any type in the list that are related to or significantly influenced/inspired by QFG. That can apply to graphics and/or gameplay. Hero-U most definitely fits that definition. It just happened to be the Coles themselves that were inspired to make a game this time, instead of fans haha. Hell just play the Hero-U demo and it feels and looks like a scene straight out of QFG1 thief mode. I suspect we will lose count of the amount of 'hat tipping' and tributes to QFG stories, graphics, and locations in the final product despite the game being set in a different universe/world. And most importantly there are still too many QFG fans out there who don't even know the Coles are making a new game, I intend to help fix that!

I guess whether he'd be interested to coming back out of retirement again if it was with the RIGHT people?

Tell him that he's got a lot of fans that feel for his situation & hope the license gets pulled from Paul.

Ahh there it is, cheers BT! I didn't direct link to your file as I felt that would have been a bit disrespectful so I linked to your forum post with the file instead so people would get the file and check out your site. I didn't really think about the possibility of your forum going down, so I lost the link to the file haha.

I still haven't taken up your offer earlier this year to host some of those rare QFG fan game demos lost on the net due to their hosts going down. I really gotta get off my butt and go find them on my hdd to send to you before I get hit by bus or something lol!

Really sad to see. I remember reading Lowe's blog years ago and seeing the farce that was those 2000s LSL console games where the makers contacted him, messed him around and then just made those god awful games without him. I really felt for him helplessly watching his creation being ruined.

So I was so happy when LSL remake was announced and Al did the video saying he was back. That's why I happily shelled out the cash and got the boxed copy and looked forward to him remaking all the LSL games with a good team of people.

However if there's one thing I've noticed with the sierra greats coming out of retirement and working with a new team is that it's a real hit and miss affair. Mark & Scott and the Coles got a hit.. Lowe and Wallis got a miss and got stuck with bad people. Yes Lowe got his game finished but at what cost.. the future of LSL? I heard way back at the beginning that Paul was an ass but this? wow.. can't wait for LSL2 The Sex Offender Special Edition to be announced. :/

Cheers Broomie! Nah my QFG Fan Games thread I already moved here so all good. :) Would be cool if you made the forum read only one day as the IA forums is like an old library book and is a massive resource of useful information and materials.

I may be forgetting somewhere but it looks like my site links to your old forums for these things:

My Quest for Infamy Page links to Klytos's thread and massive post about the history of the OLD QFI with pictures and link to the demo for curious fans.
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/forum/index.php?topic=3719.0

My Hero6 page has 2 links to Deltamatrix's (I think it was him) End of Hero6 thread where someone (whats his name from AGDI team I think) posted a big post about the history of the project and revealed there was actually a 2nd secret Hero6 project.
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/forum/index.php?topic=4844.0
Then Blackthorne (I think) posted the 2009 demo for everyone to check out which I linked to his post for fans to try out the demo.
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/forum/index.php?topic=4844.msg70981#msg70981

I have the AGS source code for Hero 6 if you're interested Blake.

All good there thanks man. I was using BT's 2009 demo to make my videos however I hit some bad bugs so Deltamatrix was kind enough to give me the final source code from 2011 which I compiled and was able to finish my videos with, I still have the file. Plus Delta went on to post it publicly at Big Blue Cup AGS forums anyway so people have been getting it from there I think.

Ahh found a copy of my old post about Hero 6 and the videos I made in case there's any old Hero 6 fans here who didn't frequent the old IA forums.

--------------------------
Hey guys,

It’s taken a few weeks and some help from Deltamatrix over at QFMG but I've finally finished my Hero 6 videos showing quick playthroughs of the big 2006 MAD engine demo and the smaller but more polished 2009 AGS demo. If any of you out there have been following the project over the last decade wanted to see how much was done and see all the brilliant work that went into the game over the years (from so many including some of our awesome AGDers here) now you can! It is my hope that by showing the world this game on youtube it will never be forgotten and maybe more fans will be inspired to help bring the project back from the dead or create great QFG style projects of their own.

I've posted new screenshots, download links and embedded the videos in the Hero 6 page at my website but I’ll post the vids here too to make it easier. :)

2006 MAD Engine Alpha Demo (in 2 Parts)
This demo boasts a very large game world to explore with a town and 2 villages containing many npcs to talk to (with a QFG4 full screen protrait style). There are many monsters to fight and even some jobs to do for the npcs.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVYoai0g6Ys" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVYoai0g6Ys</a>

2009 AGS Engine Alpha Demo (in 3 Parts)
This demo reflects the downsizing of the project with a smaller game world however it is much more polished and contains story and multiple quests to complete therefore making it much longer to play! In a way it almost feels like a sequel to the 2006 demo as places you could visit before are now dead, overgrown and haunted. The battles are better as well with new enemies and gang fights.

Can't seem to find my old thread about Hero 6 here.. maybe it was over at Infamous Adventures (wish you guys had made it read only instead of closing completely btw, my website links to important fan game convos in there lol).

Oh well I'll start a new one here as I thought it might interest some of the old fans to know that another fellow has announced over at QFMG that they've got the Hero 6 source files and are working on the project again. He posted a video showing some of the fixes he's put in so far and has requested help if possible. Yes its a slim hope I know but its always nice to hear someone is working on the game still.

Sounds more "Lure of the Temptress"-like than "Elder Scrolls"-like, but that makes me look forward to it more.

Never played Lure of the Temptress, but the thought of characters with jobs walking around doing things definitely reminds me of Oblivion & Skyrim. Hopefully much like with those games the characters leaving the area will allow you to 'borrow' their stuff mwahahaha. ;)
