Quest for Infamy / Marching Towards Infamy!
« on: September 04, 2012, 04:55:56 PM »
Well folks, it's been an amazing Summer for us here at Infamous Quests.

Our Kickstarter Campaign was very succesful, and we're now marching on - towards Infamy!

This game has been in the works for a while - about a year ago, while racing towards the finish-line with Space Quest 2, I began to put the wheels in motion to get this project started.

I wrote, and I wrote - I made outlines, and got ideas assembled.  I wanted to make sure I had enough stuff to go on, and get a team together to work on this.  I kept plugging at it, a little at a time, while we were running around like a bunch of lunatics, trying to finish up all the details on Space Quest 2.

So when I finally pitched it to Klytos in November, we had a good idea of what we wanted to do.  After talking a short break following SQ2's launch - we started up Infamous Quests, and the Infamous 7 went to work creating what became the demo.

WHEW.

So, now - we've had more talent flock to our banner - and things are progressing really nicely here!  I've been on a tear lately, trying to write more and more bits of dialogue, and coming up with more and more puzzles.  I'm excited about the coming months - and I'm excited to show you what we're up to.

Demo v 2.0 was originally planned to be released during the final week of the Kickstarter - to show the backers that we took some suggestions and implemented them.  However, due to a massive storm in Chucklas' area, he had no power and was forced to not work on the game, but to sweat his ever-loving face off and occasionally use his iPad to tell us that he was okay, but his freezer had a lot of melted and ruined food.

Now, we've decided to take Demo V 2.0 to another level - and add more of the game to it.  What you saw in the demo was part of the game - but there were elements left out - the interiors of more shops in Volksville, and another area of Volksville.  The characters that populate them - and more of the woods that surround the town!  Along with some improved, top-secret game mechanics - we think you'll find playing the "intro" of the game to be a more satisfying experience.

I do not, as of yet, have the official release date for that - but I can say it will take more time, so it won't be anytime very very soon.  Probably a couple of months.  But, we're working on it!

As always, send me your questions, send me your photos of you being Infamous.  Oh, and first person to Cosplay as Roehm gets either a Boxed Copy of the game - if they don't have one coming, or a small sprite Cameo in the game.  Boo yah.  So, hey, if the mood strikes you at Halloween - let'er rip!

Banter and Chit-Chat! / The Kickstarter Blues
« on: August 28, 2012, 11:14:14 AM »
Well - it's really going into full swing.  The Kickstarter Blues.

I'm seeing more and more larger projects go up to the plate for a big swing - and coming back wanting pretty hard.

A lot of us knew this was coming; the budgets asked by people for Kickstarters started getting out of control, and the system (and fans) couldn't sustain it.  It sucks, because there's a few projects out there I'd love see succeed - but I just don't think they have the chutzpah to raise the hundreds of thousands of dollars they want for it.

Our little project got lucky - sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to it.  I'd like to think we did a good job - presenting information, having a decent playable demo and I tried to be available for people and to put a face to our group.

So - most of the people here are Kickstarter veterans.  What do you think of the current KS trends?

Banter and Chit-Chat! / HP Lovecraft's Birthday
« on: August 20, 2012, 04:24:20 PM »
Today is HP Lovecraft's Birthday.

They guy wrote some wonderfully creepy stories.  It's his mythos that a lot of QFGIV's legends are based on... if you don't know, check out some of his works!

Also, there's a lot of great almost unpronounceable names in his works!  Gotta love that, eh??

Banter and Chit-Chat! / School For Heroes - By Lori and Corey Cole
« on: August 11, 2012, 11:43:11 PM »
Lori Ann Cole has posted over at The Quest For More Glory Forums about a new game they're going to be making based on School For Heroes!

They will be raising funds via Kickstarter in late October, according to her note there.

This is really exciting news; there would be no Quest For Infamy without Hero's Quest/Quest For Glory and I'm very excited about this project.  Corey and Lori have been nothing but gracious and kind to us, and as a personal fan, I'm really, really excited to see what they're bringing to the table.

I'm sure this will be one that many of our fans will be following.

IQ Chat / Post Kickstarter Update
« on: August 02, 2012, 12:04:42 PM »
Hey Guys!

So, this is the second post Kickstarter update for Quest For Infamy.  Honestly, not a lot of really super interesting things are going on - as this is the stage where we gird up our loins, and try and put everything in order!

I mean, it's exciting to me - and to us - people are busily working on assignments.  Right now, Shawn, Chuck and I are working on programming stuff to ensure the game's mechanics work right - you know, our day/night system, the mechanics of the stat system, the magic system, etc.  Getting more ground work done so that the game functions properly.  I hear people like properly functioning games, so that's what we're aiming for here.  Hah!

James has been pumping out musical themes, ideas and sketches.  He's one creative dude.  I know he derives much of his inspiration from the art work that Jeremy has been sketching up, and from the amazing artwork that Ivan, Jon and Jason have been turning in.  They're turned in even more since last update - I'd love to show you more, but I do have to save some surprises for later.  Let's just say it's inspiring me - I'm having a ball working on plot elements and working out puzzles.  I've actually been reading an old puzzle book I found in my book collection, and it's been giving me ideas.  I remember picking up this dusty tome from a local Rescue Mission store years ago.  I had a penchant for buying used books in my youth, and now all my shelves are stocked AND I have boxes and boxes of books... probably why there's a giant library in our Port City of Tyr in the game - I have a real love for books and an affection for giant libraries.

Jenny is back from a much deserved break post Kickstarter.  Let me tell you, she's one of the hardest working girls in the business.  And she's all business - she came home, saw the assignment list I had posted, and has immediately started tacking portraits for the game.

Heh.  I'm getting really excited about all of this.  Things are still moving an easy pace as we try and get set up.  On the clerical side of things, I'm working on the Database set up for all the information we'll be getting from you - as surveys will be sent out WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22nd.  I know they're not going to be very big - just some pertinent info like your address for shipping the physical rewards, t-shirt sizes, etc - but processing almost 1,700 of them is a decent task, and I want to make sure I get it right.

I do love to hear from you all - and on Monday, August 27th, we'll be launching the backers forums as well, where you can get more exclusive content and other goodies.

Also, our Pay Pal is still open, and will be for the first several months of production - and Big Boxes are still available.  If you're interested in upgrading your pledge to get a higher tier reward, please contact me and you can do so via Pay Pal.  You can find the PayPal link at www.infamous-quests.com as well.

I also want to give a shout out to a friend of Infamous Quests - Warbird Games and their project "Jack Houston and the Necronauts"  We became friendly with Stacy Davidson during our campaign, and I personally love his vision for the game, his passion for adventure games, and his dedication to the genre.  This game looks like it will be really special, and I'm very excited for it - they have just SEVEN days left to fund it, so if you haven't gone over and looked, peep it here -

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/warbirdgames/jack-houston-and-the-necronauts

I can say you'd be supporting a great team, and a great game - and by supporting games like this, you're also supporting this community of independent adventure game developers.  We're all just excited to make games for people like you, who want to play them, and I, for one, am enthralled at the sense of community we are building.

As always, as I sign out, I cannot stop to thank each and every one of you who pledged and backed us.  We're so committed to making an awesome game, that it literally pours out of us everyday.  It's messy.  There's a lot of cleaning up... but anyway, thank you.

Quest for Infamy / Designing Quest For Infamy
« on: July 30, 2012, 08:18:37 PM »
So,  you know - I love writing. I like making worlds come to life with just the words, and I like seeing where things go.  It's even more fun when your writing is brought to life by collaborating with an amazingly talented group of people!

So, I'm writing more and more of the intricate bits of Quest For Infamy these days.  The wide swath and overall plot and picture of QFI has been set for a long time, but now filling in the blanks - character interactions, quests, and especially puzzles are being filled in.

What kind of puzzles do you enjoy in an adventure game?

So, it appears that Replay is going with an American developer, N-Fusion, to produce their LSL remake.  I don't know details, but I feel bad.  I know Adventure Mob poured a lot of time and effort into the demo and the Kickstarter that helped fund it.

Hey Guys!

Glad so many of you made it over here from the Kickstarter.

The Special Backer forums are being set up, and they should be ready to go before the end of August.  Until then, I'll keep you updated with things right here.

We've got so much work to do, and so much organizing so bear with us, please!

We're really excited to get the ball rolling even harder.  A lot of work has been done on the game already, and more will continue!   In the coming weeks, I'll be talking about a lot of stuff we're doing - and then, when everything is all set - the backer forums will open up, with more content and fun stuff for you!

Thanks again, guys!
