Banter and Chit-Chat! / Re: What do y'all think of "mage's initiation"?

The cutscenes..... they definitely clash with the art design of the game, and honestly - they should have been cut.  A decision should have been made at the executive level.  The clash in art design between the animated scenes and the rest of the game is SO disruptive... Akril did a fine job with them, but it just doesn't fit.

Agreed.  Didn't Al Emmo (which I didn't play) have a similar issue?

I know they were a stretch goal (god, it's so frustrating to see games get burned on stretch goals, happens way too often sadly) but I wonder how much it would've cost in terms of time and resources to have done them "in-engine" instead.

Quest for Infamy / Re: Update / replace intro V.O. in QFI 2.0?
« on: February 24, 2019, 10:18:18 PM »
It'd be cool if the voices were consistent but I think most people aren't going to notice and it's not like a lot of developers go back and recast voices if the actors change in a later game, so I'm ok with the intro staying the way it is.

I am supporative and enthusiastic too! I really think that someday there will be a resurgance in interest for adventure games like QFI and others. Maybe it's a pipe-dream?  Lots of people enjoyed these games in the past. And hey if Bell-bottom jeans can come back in style so can adventure games.  It just takes proper advertising. I'm tired of shoot-em ups and MMo's. Hell i tired of most games these days. Long live Infamous Quests!!! Lets KS for QFI2!!!!!

Hey I'm liking Mage's Initiation!  Still need to play Hero-U and then get back to actually finishing QfI...

@Adventuress Have you taken a look at Amanita Design's games?  They have a very unique art style and are pretty fun.

You might also want to keep an eye on Mage's Initiation which is coming in January.  It's very Sierra / QFG inspired.  West of Loathing might also be worth a look although that's much closer to an RPG/Adventure hybrid.

If you liked the Gabriel Knight series, I'd suggest Cognition and Moebius. Both are pretty good (Cognition is awesome). Gray Matter is okay too.

Lamplight City by Grundislav Games is a big whopping love letter to GK.  I think it flew under the radar this year despite being a pretty solid (albeit easier) adventure / investigation game.

And get anything from Wadget Eye Games, the Blackwell series is awesome and there's heaps of others too.

Unavowed was their release this year and is probably one of my favorite games of the year.

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Re: SpaceVenture a Two Guys Game
« on: November 30, 2018, 09:20:43 PM »
I'm pretty confident it'll come out as well.  Games take time and being one of the earlier KS projects I think they vastly underestimated how long it would take with the resources they had (which seems to happen to nearly every video game kickstarter I've backed).  Unfortunately, most people either don't know or don't care to learn about how games are made which is why so many KS comment sections get toxic after a long period of time.  Like other people have said, that they're doing voice acting recordings is a good sign they're in the home stretch so hopefully it'll be out sometime next year.

I'm not expecting anything mind blowing, but this is my first Two Guys game so I'm looking forward to it.  I'm really hoping they manage to connect with an audience for it.

I've been pretty tough for 15 years.  I will see how much longer I can go.  I am pretty stubborn.

Give it hell man.

Seriously, take care of yourself and your family first and foremost.  And is there anything we can do to help?

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Re: Farewell, Telltale?
« on: September 27, 2018, 09:13:51 PM »
There's plenty of adventure game companies out there doing alright.

Didn't Wadjet Eye announce not long ago that Unavowed had their best launch ever?  Hero-U also seems to be doing well enough that they're talking about a side project and a sequel...  Those are probably the two highest profile releases recently.

I liked that Telltale managed to keep the genre in the public's conciousness when there wasn't many other developers investing in the genre at the time.  And I think they get some credit for trying to get their games onto consoles which is a bit of a precursor to what's going on with the Switch these days.

But... that was then and TT is...was... just one of many making narrative/story focused games.  And you know, the companies that didn't try to grow a massive ton after they had their one breakout hit still seem to be doing ok for themselves.

So good to see this is finally starting to see some light at the end of the (very long) tunnel.  Hoping it's good but not expecting anything mind-blowing.

Definitely feels like more of the stuff I've backed a long time ago are finally starting to see release.  It's a good feeling.

If anyone wants to see some of the art that was re-used the old Kingdom of Sorrow page was archived by archive.org: https://web.archive.org/web/20121019102438/http://www.infamous-adventures.com/home/index.php?page=games

There's definitely a couple of backgrounds that were obviously re-puprosed for OotT:TKC

I wouldn't say Reloaded was a success considering it was released to fairly non-plussed reviews, none of the people who worked on it got more than a single cheque for royalties, and the whole company disappeared afterwards with another group obviously claiming the rights to make a new one.

Agreed.  Reloaded really would've benefited tremendously from 2x the budget.  As it existed I'm not 100% sure it was an improvement even over the VGA remake unless you really have a thing for games in a modern resolution.

Hearing that people didn't get paid much in the way of royalties is depressing/angering.

If you are still in need of people to help kick the tires (aka beta test) I'd be willing to try and help.  Not sure how helpful I'd be since still I haven't finished the 1.0 release yet.  But there has to be some low-hanging fruit I can help find Ralph Wiggum style right?

Also, I saw the possibility of a dev stream of 2.0 development (or was it for R2R?) raised on Twitter.  I'd definitely be interested in seeing that, if it's not a huge amount of work to do.

It's ok.  I suffered for both of your sins and backed the second round.  If Hero-U and SV actually release that'd be cool, but at this point I'm not really following either of them that closely.  In both cases I'd really love to see a post-mortem on the KS campaigns and the development processes since both the Coles and the 2GFA had to build up new teams from scratch and are riding on successes from 15+ years ago

I'm really looking forward to Mage's Initiation though, they had a solid demo when they launched their campaign and I guess I'm a bit more partial to really well done sprite and 2D art these days.
