IQ Chat / Re: Question about ingame highlights
« on: December 08, 2013, 05:48:02 PM »
We didn't have Amigas, Commodores, PCjrs, or Apples when I was a kid. Everything was Tandy up until our first 486. We had a Tandy Color Computer 3 (TRS-80 equivalent that hooked up to the TV) which took cartridges, 5.25" floppies, and cassette tapes, and a Tandy 1000 after that. Loved the Tandy 3-voice/PCjr/SMS sound system. Wish I could have played around with all the different flavours of computers back then, though!

Banter and Chit-Chat! / My Debut Single Release - Uncontrolled Reentry
« on: November 21, 2013, 07:35:28 PM »
Hey, guys! I'm excited to announce my first step on my own into the music industry (besides the game work I've done) with my first song entitled "Uncontrolled Reentry"!

It's a 9-minute instrumental with elements of electronic, rock, progressive, and probably more reflecting my personal journey through life, how unpredictable it's been, and how I'm positive and excited about where the future will take me. All that fancy wording aside, it's basically just finally my own project with my own ideas and outlook on music that I've been wanting to get out there for years. It's inspired by artists like Mike Oldfield, Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, and even bands like Dream Theatre and Pagan's Mind. It's available from my website BrandonBlume.com, my Facebook Page and my Bandcamp music store and also available on iTunes, Amazon MP3, CD Baby, and eventually more.

I'm releasing this single preemptively to support a forthcoming full-length album I'm thinking of calling "Peaks and Valleys". I'll be representing a somewhat wider variety of styles in the full album in various ways, but mostly by combining my favourite sounds into one style, similar to how I've done that in this single.

You can stream Uncontrolled Reentry from my Bandcamp music store or from my SoundCloud. If you like what you hear and want to hear more please consider throwing me a dollar and supporting me and my project!

I hope you enjoy it! And if you do please spread the word and mention it to your friends. :)

I have it on CD. Loved those Signature Series CDs. Along with Battle Chess, Star Trek 25th Anniversary, and Judgment Rites

Cyan (makers of Myst and Riven) are making a brand new first person explorative adventure game with the Unreal 4 engine. "Obduction" is on Kickstarter and is already 55% funded (with a goal of $1.1m with 11k backers at the moment) with still 20 days to go.

I've been waiting for a new game from Cyan for a long time. I love everything they do. I think it was smart to not do just another Myst sequel, but we need more games with Myst's style and atmosphere!

Raiders is not as good as Last Crusade.

Tombstone was good. I really liked Inception. And of course The Matrix. Just saw Riddick in theatres a couple weeks ago, that was quite good. Better than the first two, I'd say. The first Pirates movie was good, too, even though it's a Monkey Island ripoff. Back To The Future is up there as well.

I love love love love love love love these games!! Judgment Rites is the best of the two, but both are fantastic. The space combat is optional in Judgment Rites as well. These were such great games. Episodic gaming before it was cool! And done right to boot! (Done right, as in, all the episodes in one package :P)

Ironically, I'm not pressing A and I'm still getting adventure games...

Am I the only one that used Sierra's exclusive middle-click to alternate between Walk and the last selected icon?

Just buggin' you, Lamb. :)

Of course I see the issue of having too many interactions that can all be condensed into one. If there were multiple interactions that you could do with one object then that would be different; there would being a point to them all. But if it doesn't make a difference then you're right. I do remember so many people complaining that the P&C interface was dumbing down adventure games in stages. It went from parser (near perceived infinite interactions), to a dozen or so click interactions (Maniac Mansion), to 9 interactions (Monkey Island), to 4 interactions including inventory (Sierra games), to 1 interaction (KQ7). It was my opinion that most people hated the dumbing down and were arguing for keeping the extra interactions. I always thought as you did, though. That is, what would be the point of making more interactions when one can do the same thing as them all? Really the only solution would be to go back to parser. That's the only real place that multiple interactions (beyond 4) has a point really. (no pun intended)

I didn't think the writing was bad, but it's been ages since I've played it. I just remember being blown away by the powerful ending sequence. The music, the art, the writing, the dialogue, the voice acting, and everything all came together nicely and it was all quite moving to me back then. Need to give this thing an actual adult go again. Perhaps with the new voices and with fan feedback it'll all be more enjoyable for everybody in the end.

If Vivendi wasn't so moronic and didn't throw out everything Sierra did then it wouldn't have been an issue. Game sources need to be preserved. It's too bad nobody had the foresight for this (or a single care) back in the day.

Awesome idea. What better throwback to the Great Era than this?

Hah yeah I'd often get confused when people were talking about Monkey Island in abbreviated form...

I had a really hard time coming up with a handle for myself. I was originally Nifty on the AGDI boards (then Tierra). Or was it Shine64? Anyway, I wanted a music-oriented name and I couldn't think of a good one. I finally came up with MusicallyInspired as it has two meanings; I'm inspired to do things musically and also that music itself inspires me to do things (not necessarily music). I also thought it wasn't very obnoxious as I was saying I'm inspired musically and not skilled or anything. Didn't want to look stuck up, as I didn't have much confidence in myself back then. Somehow a few people still took it that way, though. Not that I really care. It's just a handle. I thought of changing it a few times, but it's become who I am now. I couldn't possibly change it. I've established myself as that now and everybody knows me everywhere I frequent by it.

Banter and Chit-Chat! / Re: Walking dead
« on: April 30, 2013, 07:04:23 AM »
I'm definitely not into zombie stuff. At all. I'm sick of the trend that's been going on far too long now......but dangit if AMC's The Walking Dead didn't suck me RIGHT IN. It's just that good. It's excellent storytelling. It's one of those pieces of entertainment that I actually consider important to experience as much as Star Wars or Indiana Jones. If the graphic novels/comics are even better than the show, Robert Kirkman must be one heck of a writer. Because it's not about the zombies. And I think that's what makes it work. Yeah, it's dismal and dreary and disturbing sometimes, but man you just can't stop watching and wondering what's going to happen next. Completely not like any other zombie movie or story I've ever seen.

Played the first episode of the game at one point. Didn't really like it. Must finish it sometime....I just don't want to give Telltale any more of my money. :P
