Hey all, I am from the U.SA. and this thread is meant to show patriotism to one's own Country. I love my country and serve it the best i can. I vote (for what it is worth), pay taxes (who does not?), live, work and try to be a good productive member of society. It is my humble belief that one should be proud of where they come from. I Love my country and serve it for all its questionable events over the last 239 years! In the end i beleive in the principals unto this nation was founded. Have we strayed? Maybe. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I am not an American Asshole who thinks we are the best, but the ideas, unto which this country was founded on is. :)
Chadly.

Get ready for some serious trolling on this thread!
For what it's worth, I agree with you. Not about America because let's face it - you're only a second-rate version of Australia.
-
No trolling by me, Just an honest thread on patriotism by one's own country. Shit folks, those who were disturbed by English Rule happened long before we, (the colonies, the USA nowadays) told them to get fucked.) We were the first to anything about unless i am mistaken.?
-
No, I meant trolling by others!
And yeah, the US was the first to leave the British Empire, followed by Canada in 1867, although that was more civil than the US establishing of the Republic in that the Canadians were considered a dominion of the Empire - basically a self-governing entity until 1931 when the final removal of the ability of the British Parliament to legislate for them (Australia is the same except we removed that ability of the British in 1939 at the outbreak of the war. This allowed us to establish our own diplomatic relations with other countries without British input.)

I served and B G I'd do it again.

By all means, be proud of where you came from, but please don't try to sell us that "American Exceptionalism" crap. We're just as flawed as every other country on Earth.
-
I'm from England. It's okay I guess.
-
I hail from Estonia. Can't complain too much. :P

I disagree on that. America, for it's faults, is a damn sight better than a lot of other countries. Let's take most of Asia, Africa, South America as a starting point. I think you Americans (and this is a generalisation I know) either have to be flag waving WE'RE THE GREATEST! or the alternate WE'RE SHIT AND IT SHOULD ALL CRUMBLE NOW. Accept that you're good with some problems like most western countries. There's good and bad.
-

You're right, and this is generally my view as well. I hear a lot of the "greatest country on earth" shit from some of my more under-informed conservative relatives, and it makes my head spin. Realism, that's all I ask from people.
-
Realistically, I enjoyed Obama reading mean tweets on Jimmy Kimmel the other night.

Don't make this into a conservative thing. It may be that more conservatives are vocal, but there are liberals in the same camp. It is like you said, an "under-informed" thing, but not a conservative one.
-
Yeah, as my Grandpa used to say "There's blockheads in every camp."
Bt

classic charlie brown talk there :)
ya block head!
wah wah wah wwaaah waah wahhh wahh

I'm not making it into a conservative thing. I'm simply talking about my under-informed conservative relatives (and friends, too, if you want to get even more specific,) which is exactly what I said. I've personally never heard such a thing from my more liberal friends and relatives, but I hear it all the time from the ones with conservative leanings. I know full well it's #notallconservatives, but it certainly seems to be in the case of the 200 or so people to whom I am connected via Facebook. ;)

That's one of your problems right there. Anyone who uses social media as a political forum...I'll leave it at that. :)
I just hate getting lumped into a group when it comes to politics. I am a registered republican, but see my self more as a fiscal conservative and social liberal. At the end of the day, the fiscal side wins.
-
im anti everything in politics
but understand we need something :)
im not an anarchist or anything, i think i posted once before that at heart im a socialist/Marxist/communist but these forms cant/dont apply to real world developement or we would be living in star trek... but the ideas of them are just great, but they just dont work ..
see history for why lol
even marx said he himself wasnt a marxist hehe but i digress
(what is the form of government in star trek? anyone?)
hint:its pretty close to socialism
its called post-capatilism(if memory serves my trekie brain) EDIT yep double checked, and or libertarian thinking but when you compare star trek to say, shoe makers giving shoes free, bakers bread free etc, its pretty darn close to socialism, only with a council thats, well make believe as we could only dream to be so lucky hehe
I love usa vs lots of other places, but i think im aboot to move to canada :)
cali will be out of water in 1 year wwwwwwtf
something isnt working in usa :P
then again there are far worse places to be XD
but again as Thomas Jefferson said, the government should be afraid of the people not the people of the gov,
and ever 20 years the people need to refresh the tree of liberty by overthrowing the gov to keep them in check
of course that was older thinking from a slave owner but... me likes the thought of a reset button on usa

Facebook is just an echo chamber. Someone says something, it gets shared, repeated, shared again and suddenly what that person said is seen as a truth because so many people have said it. In reality its just someones opinion that a few others agreed with and shared to the point where it hits a critical mass.
-
oh sooo trrue
idk why but that made me think of the song
"chamber of hello's"
wire train anyone?
hehe seems appropriate :)
gawd im gettin old

Feeling guilty? ;)
-
Nope. Not at all.

Normally I'd back you up here Chuck, I'd certainly vote Republican the majority of the time in the US. But damn me at the moment those idiots who sent the open letter to Iran... the right wing nutter in me says they should all be charged with treason. Regardless of who the President is and whether they oppose him or not (and I'm certainly not an Obama fan by any stretch of the imagination.) Not a good look.
Still, a couple of good candidates with hats in the ring. I like Scott Walker. Might be a great candidate that can bring the base along as well as appeal to the middle. If he can get the middle like Reagan and Clinton did, home and hosed.
-
I agree that there are some real idiots in the republican party. But it goes both ways. That's all I am saying.
The biggest problem that I have with the current US government is that with all the redistricting, it is impossible for a middle of the road candidate to win their own primary. If you aren't extreme to one side or the other, you wont win a primary. Then in the general elections, there are no candidates that could actually make any bipartisan efforts. We are left with 2 extremes that say that passing bills that are mostly split down party lines as bipartisan. To me, a bipartisan effort would be one where e found the middle ground that no one is 100% happy with, but everyone can live with it, and it could be supported by all. But the way things are now, that will never happen because those who would have that approach cannot win a primary let alone be elected.
-

In other words, bills that are completely toothless and generally don't succeed in their intended purposes? In my reading of the history of the last century or so, the only bills that really mattered and actually affected change WERE the ones that were considered extreme in their day. (Whether those changes were positive or negative depends on where you fall on the political spectrum.) Lukewarm policy positions help no one.
-
Lamb, you once again miss the point entirely. I am more interested in finding ways to unify the country as opposed to dividing it. I am all about finding middle ground that everyone can be happy with. There are times for standing your ground and waiting for the other side, but for the most part, middle ground does exist. We would be much better off trying to find that middle ground than trying to force an extreme on half the people that do not support it.

I agree with this in theory, and that's a lovely sentiment, but I find it impossible to separate your words from the party you associate yourself with, who have demonstrated themselves to be completely intransigent on almost every issue they support. How can you say that with a straight face and then identify as a Republican in this country?
-

You did notice I said earlier that this is just an ideal and that I agree it can't happen. You did read my posts right, or did you just stop when you read that I identify as a republican?
I find it impossible to separate your words from the party you associate yourself with
That's too bad. You tend to just lump all republicans into a box instead of actually listening to what an individual says. I guess you are choosing to be part of the problem.

I explained how and why I identify as a republican earlier. Perhaps you should have actually read my entire post.
Like I said before, the real issue I have with US politics is the fact that there exist two extremes and no middle ground. To continue to lump all liberals or conservatives into a single category only makes this issue more prominent. I don't believe we will ever make any real headway to becoming a unified nation because of it. I honestly have taken less and less interest in politics and elections as a result. But Lamb, my issue with you (and I shouldn't have an issue because you are like this everywhere) is that you take your opinion and don't listen to anything anyone else says. You are always right and you will continue to poke until people just get pissed off. And you then say that they are the problem. Not a good look my friend.
-
These things always degenerate into something like this. I'm not going to lock this or anything, but perhaps if people want to keep this down the road it's become, they can do it in PMs?
Bt

Why are you making this personal? You're the one who spun this into a big debate just because I used the word "conservative" (in a very specific context which you chose to ignore, I might add.) Who the fuck cares, man? Politics is a draining bore, and not worth the effort it takes to argue about. I'm sorry you think I'm such an asshole, but you're just going to have to take it or leave it. Don't engage with me if I bother you that much.
-
Got to love politics huh?
Let's just both stay on our side of the fence then, I'm a conservative. Small government = better government. Less involvement and intrusion into my life the better. Less spending on useless garbage because let's be honest, everything the government runs becomes a failure. Keeping business and needs in the private sector. Everything else regarding social decisions I could care less about. Equal rights for all.
I like Scott Walker too, I hope he is next in line. However, the letter to Iran I don't find it offensive. Obama wants to make a deal with Iran that has openly admitted to wanting to wipe us and any Western belief off the face of the earth. Whatever intentions they have can't be good. Why would we make a deal with them? The sanctions should have been left in place on them. Iran openly oppresses women, gays, and other religions. If we truly are for equal rights then we need to show some balls with these people.
The Democrat Party of today is not the Democrat Party of the nineties. The Democrat Party of the nineties was trending in this direction, but we are now full-on, radical leftist. There are no moderate Democrats left.

God. the title of this thread is mis-spelled - ("Havoing pride") and it's driving me nuts every time I see it at the bottom of the forum!!!

Can I just point out that you misspelled the misspelling?

It was a slight improvement though Steve.

I'm unintentionally hilarious. Havong. DAMN YOU HAVONG!!!

Ok folks i started this thread for patriotism for one's Country not to debate politics. However I like to debate politics often taking the side i disagree with for fun debates. Both parties in the USA are flawed, I agree with Both sides on some issues. Both parties DEMs and Repubs are some good ideas but both fight each other constantly. We need both sides to moderate themselves to serve This Great Nation effectively.
Oh and i am sorry i mispelled the title, i didnt notice it till after. Funny tho! ;)

To be fair, there's no moderate Republicans either. But let's actually lay out what the problem really is in American politics. The 24 hour news cycle.
When there's nothing of interest to report, so 80% of the time, they still have to fill that space so they just resort to spinning something that is nothing into a major epic event. And depending on the journalist, it will be slanted one way or the other. Or if there's nothing to spin, just make some shit up. Case in point this week, Putin was in bed for a week with a flu, therefore the pundits are saying there's been a coup in the Kremlin. I mean really. And because this is the news now, it becomes a reality.
